I've recently learned about this behavior too, now I'm always watching for which ones dip underwater. Would love to go back to some lakes and capture more images of them doing this. Really nice shot with some motion!

Wood ducks are much easier to photograph on a cloudy day in the soft light.

Looking at your Exif, I realize you didn't only have to anticipate his emergence from the dunk, but also that this wasn't an easy shot to get in dim light, nice catch Morris.

Thank you Eric,
I've always loved the quality's of light in the shade, on cloudy days and during the magic hours. I'm loving being able to capture images in it now that I have a camera plus software that is up to the task.
Very clean image.
