It was a beautiful day at Assateague, a little chilly but calm. We arrived at dawn and spotted a juvenile Black Crown Night Heron just sitting in the deep shadows of the woods. So to photography the bird I had to slow down the shutter - but that was OK he wasn't moving.

Then we came across a group of Buffleheads and I thought I was gettng some great shots BUT these birds were in the sun and the knucklehead forgot about the slow shutter when he was shooting the Buffleheads. I may have gotten one or two OK shots but I clearly paid the price of not paying attention. I was able to piece together a sequence after I spotted my error but I missed a lot of great shots.

On the way out we spotted a Northern Mockingbird that just posed for us.

All in all a great way to spend the morning and another reminder to pay attention to what you are doing.

Thank you Morris. I did see two ponies but the ponies were heads down munching grass. Still kicking myself after photographing Buffleheads in action at 1/250🤬

Bob,
nice set. Assateague is one of my favorite places, whether it's a day trip to let my puppy romp on the beach for a few hours, or my annual winter camping trip with two long time friends. Looking at your bufflehead panorama, I'm going to say that that is a composition that can be appreciated by taking a few steps back, much like an impressionist painting, and appreciating it for the sequence of action you have captured. I would view this as incentive to go back for more, much more.

Thanks for the kind words Gero. Assateague is beautiful and the Park Service has done a great job restoring the wlaks and boardwalks.

don't forget to get out on the beach and wait for the pelican to fly by. Maybe more of a summer thing, but not to be overlooked!
