I love my properly working Leicas, but seeing that Leica is happy to ship defective product and think it is acceptable to take months to fix them, it doesn’t really seem that they expect people to actually take pictures with them.
So yes, they do ship jewellry. If your Leica works properly, then you have beautiful jewelry that can be used to take amazing photos in the right hands.

Shrug - fits the Leica luxury brand push as well as all other Leica special camera/lens editions etc. It seems being big part of Leica Camera's business success. Regular users of Leica gear will mostly ignore these editions but suffer from increased prices for new gear and that other more cost-effective high quality options were removed (Summarit-M lens line).

Customer service was certainly not an area where Leica improved in recent years. Following articles in news about Leica Camera, many jobs were cut in Wetzlar and other places since the pandemic while other jobs - in a much smaller amount - were created for software development. My impression is that repair and support functions are staffed with a minimum amount of people working there. It is a big area for Leica to improve on - but as you said, it affects customers who are using Leica gear. I hope this is still a focus for Leica Camera and not just the collectors and gear traders for profit who never use what they purchase.

When my new 2022 M6 was in for repair for film scratching, the Leica rep told me the tech would not be back until Friday when I called on a Wednesday to go through the check list of what was wrong.
So Leica NJ has one guy. One guy for North America.

I'm a fan of all things mechanical but $28K for a watch brand with no history manufacturing them is a questionable investment. Germany does produce arguably the finest watches and you can only get a very basic model from A. Lange for that price. I'll stick with their cameras and leave the watchmaking to brands that hold their value.

Best display back in the business. You can even tell what time it is on the front but... langweilig

Leica for sure has that "luxury' appeal for its cameras but paying 28K for watch is absurd. I am not a watch guy but given that availability of funds, I would invest it in a Rolex or Omega instead.

Germany for watches? Thought that was Switzerland.

Like Mont Blanc, their pens are actually really good, but whether they cheapen or enhance the brand by selling everything else under the sun with that brand name remains a question.

Perhaps it's like jewelry in its craftsmanship. they do take great pictures, and sometimes, the M rangefinder is the best tool for the job.

They are jewelry, they are luxury items,

Yes they can be used as a tool, a Rolex or any expensive watch can still be used to tell time.

It's actually a pretty nice watch. I like a good hand wound German watch. Most watches are made using computer numerical control machines and laser cutters for nearly every part these days, with a limited amount of true hand finishing, unlike the days gone by. So it's no surprise the smart folks at Leica figured out how to make one, too. Leica has a long history of limited editions, and also higher prices compared to other brands. This business model enables them to use these profits to make their superior products, which albeit expensive, have few peers. In their user base there are certain people who buy these items because of the perceived "Luxury" branding. They also have optics that are rarely matched for for size and weight in the m line, for example. It took Cosina 8 years to compete with the 50mm f2 apo-Summicron-m apsh using their Otus knowhow, and the Leica version still edges the Apo-Lanthar 50 out in ultimate performance, albeit for 9 times the price. The M11 has the best iteration of the 61mp bsi cmos sensor for color science and dynamic range. These are but 2 examples of the many superior offerings of Leica. Do they cost more? Yes. Can you get a better alternative for any cost? For some offerings, no. Are people still going to cast aspersions out of envy, you bet.

They call it the Leica ZM? Is this how Leica dances on the grave of the Zeiss ZM lineup that used to compete with them?

As long as these special editions and other collector items help Leica's bottom line and thus allows them the finacial freedom to create and make cameras like the M series and M Momochrom's I say keep on rocking Leica.

"The Leica Watch ZM 1 Gold Limited Edition is a tribute to the rich..." 😜

And now "The rest of the story": "The Leica Watch ZM 1 Gold Limited Edition is a “tribute to the rich Leica heritage of pioneering craftsmanship,”

And that’s what I love about FM! We love our gear but willingly point out what is wrong/how things can be better.

It’s why I quit l-forum (the Leica forum). They deleted some of my posts talking about Leica having issues w their new cameras scratching film - even the official statement from Leica confirming that! - but allowed members to continuously post that it did not exist but was ‘user error’.
A fan-boi site is useless to me. I love my Leica gear and there is nothing I’d prefer to use for MY needs, but I - and others members of FM - are not going to pretend things are perfect.

Wow - I wasn't aware of this! But yes, the L-forum also strikes me as mainly a pool of brand supporters. I have read the M6-related posts with film scratching including Leica's official statement - to delete this clearly shows that the administrators are afraid of loss in sales and profits from this valid issue.

I personally find less specific gear-related posts on the L-forum more useful: for example discussions about film development, printing, scanning, photo sharing - pretty much things not directly linked to Leica gear only. I learned from and shared knowledge in discussions there. I stay out of Leica-specific gear related posts on L-forum since they always turn in the same direction - all positive...

The L forum isn’t as bad as the LUG in its heyday. Six or seven regulars posted 80% of the content and often sidetracked into discussions about cocktails and hats as if it was their private little club, made witty comebacks on each other’s posts often inane. Very little practical content about Leica. The last straw was when a well known member insisted the inaccurate framelines on the M were by design to match the crop of slide mounts.

I agree 100% Huss. Exchanging information and ideas with a group of people who are sycophants is like talking to ones self. I much prefer honest and open discussions. Otherwise it is a lot like mutual...

I got some sort of demerit that "never expires" over that conversation. I think your response was deleted as it was a direct quote from an email from Leica – probably some sort of legal hand-wringing over Euro laws around communications privacy. Or it was just caught up in a sweeping delete of tit for tat posts without regard for content.
