I spent yesterday morning in the Skagit Flats area. Once the fog burned off I was surprised to get a kingfisher. Though they aren't uncommon here, having one sit awhile and pose is.

This male northern harrier spent about a half hour hunting back and forth putting on a nice show. Females are quite common but the "grey ghost" males are much less inclined to come out for photographers. While it was exciting to watch and photograph, he uncooperatively kept his back to me except when he was too far out of range. 650 butt shots

it's always satisfying to experience rare opportunities.

i can relate to the overabundance "butt shots". with the current rage on ai, perhaps it'll soon be able to convert unwanted "butt shots" into desirable keepers. )).

I think you were lucky to get a king perched long at all, they always seem on the move.

Kingfishers most often just chatter-laugh at me as they immediately fly off any near by perch. This is a very unique perch to get a KF shot so it's cool.
I really like the harrier look-back shot, very graceful looking and a nice comp on your part IMO
