I thought he was walking down MY side of the creek. But as it turned out I was sitting on HIS side of the creek.

What a shot Dan, brings into focus the size of these guys. Seems to me that any side of the creek he wants is his side. Terrific shot.

Super photo Dan. I love your discussion of land ownership.

Great moment Dan! Yeah, get outa my way, coming through is what I am seeing. I don't know bears all that well, but I get the impression of a very healthy middle-aged bear with some gray starting in the snout that knows he's a bad ass.

Great shot Dan, and you are correct what ever side it's on is his side. Nice clean background. Click and time to go.

Thanks, Louie. Yeah no one was arguing over fishing rights.

Thanks, Morris. Brief but accurate description of the situation

This is actually a sub-adult probably four to six year old and 500-600lbs. You can tell he's not yet competing for breeding rights by his lack of scars around his head/neck. He still needs to pack on a few hundred pounds to impress the ladies.

I go by the common sense version of rules of the road. Tonnage has the right of way.

Thanks, Dave. Yes it was a good though limited opportunity for a shot with nothing but the bay in the distant BG. Though a minute later another bear walked behind him in the distance and messed things up.

Thanks, John. This guy did have nice brown eyes but in the name of full disclosure I did lift the shadows on them a bit in post. There eyes are notoriously dark.

Well, you're here to tell the tale. So, it wasn't bad. It turned out very good, Dan.

Hey I think I know this guy. After thousands of images from Halo Bay, Brooks Falls, and Kinak Bay it is just possible. I have had many close encounters with brown bears but have never felt threatened by one . They do always get the right of way. Great image that gets your attention.

At least until a bigger bear comes along.

Thanks for commenting, Bruce.

I've never felt overtly threatened. Had a few standoffs with sub-adults testing the waters. But the most dicey situations have been when I've been in the wrong spot when there was conflict between animals. There were so many bears on this last trip that happened several times. Nearly got run over by bears more than once when they were running from another one and not watching where they were going.
