Someone suggested to me the older TA-3-LC would work better
I like the features of the newer TA-2-U

the TU-3 is designed specifically for the Versa 3 tripod. if you have a Ultralight 33/34 you would use the TA-2 (also for the Versa 2/Ultalight 2)

the TA-2 has a higher level of versatility. after retiring my TVC33 w/the original TU-3 a few years ago i use a Versa 24 with the TA-2 and a PMG GK Jr

the fist question is which tripod are you getting or have?

that will decide how they integrate.

now the TU-2 allows itself to be used on just about any quality tripod not just RRS.

the TU-3 offers the highest stability on that rig and lowest profile. the 3 mount screws are undone and the platform is removed and replaced by the bowl and the half ball component is dropped in and screwed in from below with the handle. there are 2 lengths of handle available i suggest the longer one

the TU-2 you remove the 3/8-16 center stud from it and thread it down to the versa platform stud.

each of these actions take a short time to do.

do you intend to use the TU-2 on other tripods?

once i put the TU-3 on my TVC-33 it stayed on.

Ideal then I have both and do as you said
I do have other tripods and do also landscape and travel
Big expense though to have both

that's right. in this case it would be old school methods but almost never needed. leveling in the eyepiece.

TU-3 for me, way easier to loosen without moving the tripod (I think it's a bit easier to level, as well).

i used the prototype TU3 on my TVC33 (now versa) back in 2009. yes, it is the best option for that series tripod primarily because it was specifically designed for it.

now, these days, i use the TVC24 and the TA2, which was/is designed for it. very little difference in usability. in short it works real well on many different model tripods but it integrates best on the TVC24/versa series and it does due to the same reason the TU3 is best on the Versa/TVC
