Roselynn Carter (1927-2023), Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, 1979. She and President Carter were taking the Mississippi Queen down the river and stopped at various ports along the way. The Carters never had any fears about mingling with the throngs of people who came out to see them--much unlike the situation today. In my opinion, Roselynn was one of the finest, most gracious First Ladies this country has ever had. Both she and Jimmy devoted their political lives entirely to doing whatever they could to improve people's lives.
Cheers,
Brent

Wonderful lady, a gracious and classy couple. She and her husband represent the good we need more of in our country - not just in politics, but the world in general. May she Rest In Peace.

That is a great image, and from what I know of them they are great humans. A shame that the US was not ready for what the First Lady and her husband brought to the office of the president. Truly people who 'talk the talk and walk the walk'.

+1,2 & 3 to all the comments above. My dad was very involved in Habitat For Humanity. His picture with Jimmy was one of his proudest mementoes. They truly embody the best of our country, and real Christian (most all religions) values. Thanks for sharing this wonderful memory and photo of yours.

Thank you all very much for the nice words. I think no matter what political differences people have the one thing we all agree on is the decency and devotion to duty that the Carters exemplified. I strongly suspect that Jimmy will follow Roselynn very soon because they were so incredibly close.
Since I'd never gone back to these old negs to do scans until doing the shot of Roselynn, I decided to do a few more from that day. Funny how doing this brings the memories flooding back. I can clearly recall the entire, very rainy, day.
Cheers,
Brent

Hey Dan, that's amazing that you knew the Secret Service guys with Carter. They sure do look the part, don't they? I was around quite a few of them while covering various presidential campaigns. A few times I tried to joke with them but they are stone faced and dead serious. They give you looks that say, "don't mess with me!" After Kennedy, Ford and Reagan, I guess that's easy to understand.
I'm glad I brought back some memories for you. That's one of the beautiful things about photography.
Cheers,
Brent

Brent, Having just watched the funeral service for Roselynn - that last image "Roselynn with Anonymous Infant" is wonderful. Thank you for sharing it. I can not imagine the loneliness Jimmy must feel. The whole world that he lived in is gone. So many lost friends, and loved ones. However, they both gave it their all, and will likely not have any regrets.

A very touching and fitting tribute, Brent.
Politics aside, the Carters are the best examples of what loving, caring humanity aspires to be.
Sincere thanks for your post.

Many thanks. They definitely set a high bar, not only for politicians but for all people. They personified decency.
