p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mountainsmith lumbar packs

I'm considering getting a Mountainsmith Lumbar Pack for carrying my a7r iii with a couple lenses (24-70, 70-200). I have an old school mountainsmith lumbar pack (of the Tour size). The options I'm considering are:
- Tour FX (discontinued but available used)
- Tanack 10L (without cubes, which provide the padding and structure for holding lenses, etc.)
- Day (not intended for photography per se but good sized, would likely get an older model year than 2023)

The Tour FX looks great for being organized and being able to fit 70-200 mounted on the body. It does look a little bulky and less versatile for carrying other odds and ends (a rain jacket, travel docs, etc).

The Tanack 10L is overpriced in my opinion but seems plenty big, has a rain cover, and is a touch lighter than the Tour FX.

The Day feels a little heavy on features and pockets, but I can likely find things to stick in them haha. I also prefer to have less zippers on the outside when moving through crowds.

Does anyone have any insights on these? I looked through the long "Camera Bags" thread and didn't see much on these.

Cheers!
Sean

you might want to look at the new PressPass belt packs from Think Tank. the PressPass 10 or 20

Curious if you have one... was considering the 20 to replace my Speed Freak belt pack but I've not been impressed with some of Think Tank's recent bags, which seem a bit on the flimsy side compared to past offerings. The old Speed series were built like tanks.

unfortunately, its not Z9 sized. its built more for the more svelt model bodies. its built better than the Mountainsmath models. i had the speed freak too. never cared for the hip belt portion though.

i drag around things on my shoulder like my current retrospect 20/v2 and my truly indestructible Domke J2 that has been modded a few times.
