What would you do? I am switching to mirror less and currently have R7, R10 and RP. I am selling a 100D and 6D and am trying to decide whether to sell the 1D4 or 7D2. In the past I have mainly shot wildlife but am doing more street and general now. I intend adding R6 or R8 soon. Suggestions appreciated!

I kept my 7dmk2 when I purchased an R6. The 7dmk2 is a fantastic camera! I would keep both the 7dmk2 and the 1D4.

Considering I too own the 100d, 6d, 7d2 & 1div plus a fair few other canon DSLR’s I’d be stuck
The 100d is small and discreet
6D files are gorgeous
7d2 is simply a beast
1div is a beast too, but I think the 7d2 outperforms it.

So the 1div is for me the weaker model, but I’m keeping mine for the hell of it 👍🏻😂👍🏻

Edit
The 6d & 7d2 share the same battery as the R7
That in itself would sway my decision making
Likewise the RP and R10 use the same battery as the R8 but the R6 shares the same battery as the 6d, 7d2, R7

So the odd one’s out are both the 100D and 1div

I'd get rid of both.

The 1D series are special. I´d perhaps keep the 1D4 for sentimental reasons unless it is still worth something.

Pixelpuffin has a point with the different batteries. Can be annoying at times with the different batteries with their different chargers. And spare batteries of both kinds, keep them charged etc. adds up to more to keep in mind, more fuss and less photography.

Leave the EF behind and jump to a clean RF setup. You wont regret it. My only small regret is that I switched my lovely small R10 to the peppered but not quite complete R7. Sold the R7 to a friend last week to lessen the economic pain from preordering the 200-800. And now I miss a crop sensor body, specifically the R10.

A R10, RP (wich I have and find competent enough for slow stuff in goodish light) and R8 trio would use the same battery. The RP would have the _far_ inferior AF of the three, as you already know. An other issue is the markedly different menus of the bodies which can be irritating. I have no experience with neither the R8 not the R6 as I now only have the RP and the R5. But if the economy allows, I would get the R6mk2 unless you need high resolution. The R62 appears to be powerful with more future in it, obviously, as it is a newer generation. But it has the same batteries as the R7.

What can a R6 or R62 add that the R8 cant do? Photography wise?

Question you need to answer is would you still shoot them? If not, just get what you can for the equipment you don’t use and move on.

Get rid of anything you're not using. I'm going through the same process myself, clearing out all bodies and lenses I haven't used in two years. I'm not running a camera storage facility and pre-Christmas is a good time to sell used gear.

After got my R which had poor fps and terrible frame to frame blackout my 7D2 never came out of the bag again. I had too much fun with the AF. EF 100-400 II and 2X was no issue. No mirrors, etc.

I see two equally valid answers here. Given: neither the 7D2 or 1D4 are actually worth much any more; both are going for about $450 (US) on E-Bay right now. Given: Your R7 will do everything either of them do, and then some.

Valid option #1: sell both. You have both their capabilities covered.
Valid option #2: sell neither. Keep them for shooting in poor conditions. Or just nostalgia.

Don't be in a hurry to make a decision. Neither will fall much in value over the short/medium term. That is another reason to sell neither, especially if you have any use for them at all.

I got rid of the ID mark IV, kept the 7D at the time. I considered the 7D a better camera.

Both are still good imo, high iso looked quite good on both looking at online files, probably pretty similar to 24mp aps DSLR maybe even a little better. Should be pretty comparable vs the R10, iq-wise, unless they really improved the iq vs 24 mp aps DSLR

I would, and did, sell the DSLRs after ~9 months with mirrorless. Eventually you will get RF lenses and those obviously won't work on the EF mount, limiting the DSLRs to whatever EF lenses you still use.

1DIV was a very good camera in 2010 but has been technically surpassed. The R7 will outperform it for AF and many action applications. Same holds for the 7DII. Sure, the DSLRs will still make good images, but will you realistically still use them? I think it depends on what you plan to do for lenses as you transition to the R system.

Neither will fall a lot farther than they have already. I would peddle them both and pick up a used 1DX if you need a backup that far down your inventory.

I still have my 7D2 (and my 10D and 40D, for that matter) because they are cameras that I loved when I bought them as my main cameras years ago, and still enjoy using them on occasion in the same way I enjoy using my F1n and FM2N. All of the DSLRs are outperformed by my little R10, and my R62 is on a completely different level, but the old cameras still bring joy when I use them. If you like your 7D2 and 1DIV, keep them for as long as you do, and move them on when you no longer feel that way about them.

One thing to consider is how many clicks they have. If one is near 150k clicks, sell that one and keep the other.

that's the thing, if you enjoy using them, the iq is there. 7D2 looked to have quite good high iso, better at high iso than the same mp 70D, so it's probably more on the 24mp aps level, if not better. Surprised at the high iso on the 1D4 it does have the bigger 1.3 sensor though, much larger pixels.

R10 does have very high DR according to Photons to Photos, though. Almost as much as ff cameras. But the older cameras very capable

I don't keep stuff I don't use. Why keep them? Why do you need all those multiple bodies anyway?
