I’ve owned every focal length as a prime from 24mm to 135mm and a 24, 28, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 65, 85, 90, 105, and 135. I recommend you find your desired focal length and then see which lenses you like. For example for me personally I like 28, 40, 85, 105, and 135. Problem is at some of those focal length Sony or other 3rd party vendors have not offered their best quality. So for different lens families I’ve chosen different products. On GM it’s 35, 50, 85, and 135. For Sigma I-series I’m using on A7Cx I’m using 35, 65, and 90 mostly although also have a 50mm. Have also owned Zeiss Batis lenses and liked their 40, 85, and 135. Have not found a 28mm I really want on Sony mount all though I did get the 28/2 used and trying it on an APS-C body as a ~40 equivalent....Show more →
Thanks for the post; wow, you can say that again! It is quite complex and at times frustrating trying to sift through the reviews and opinions as to what set of characteristics might work best for me....too many variables.
Your experience with many brands and lenses is a breath of fresh air. Of course my set of use factors will be different, such as: I need to find a set of lenses that needs to meet in general weight and budget constraints. Then try and decide which focal lengths, etc, etc. The good news is that I have some experience with several primes (Samyang 18, 35 and 75) which have been given to my son, so I am starting 'fresh.'
For 35mm my current list of possibles are: Sigma 35mm F2 DG DN, Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G and Samyang AF 35mm F1.8 FE
I believe I listed the kind of photography I enjoy in my original post, and would appreciate any suggestions...thanks
