What, if anything would you add to my kit

One of my favorite things about FM is that everyone here is so unique in how they do photography and what they use. I recently downsized a bunch of Nikon gear to get into a more compact kit and I am very happy I did. It just is working better. Pretty happy with my current setup. I used the money from my Nikon gear to get an A6700, A7CR, 16-35, 18-135, 70-300 and 90mm macro. I had a 55/1.8 that I still had kept. I think this covers it quite well. Majority of my focus is landscape. A few portraits, and then some general walk around photography. Sometimes I think I am missing a faster prime like a 20mm or 24mm? I do want to start doing some astrophotography, but have not yet. I have a few bucks left over from the Nikon sale, and I want to consider giving myself an early Christmas gift, even take advantage of black friday? What ONE lens would you ad, and why?
note: my eyes are not what they used to be, so I do struggle when using manual, so manual only lenses would not be considered.

There are so many desirable lenses, but I'm not a big fan of rounding out a "kit" that should cover everything. Very likely some items will be left on the shelf collecting dust. Instead, go out to shoot and let that direct you to discover the gap in your gear, if any.

Excellent advice. Shoot with what you got until your equipment limits your photography, then modify your kit. Only you will know the type of photos your existing gear is stopping you from shooting them.

We seriously have so many lenses to choose from one can go crazy. Defintiely sound advice to shoot with what you got and see if you find some gap you want to fill.

I myself over years went back and forth kinda between primes and zooms. I still end up going back to wide angle primes like the godly amazing 20 1.8g because of the FL i learned to love from my nikon days. What you have should suit you quiet well 🙂

Happy shooting!

That is an excellent point. It is a very good way to think this through. Thank you! Honestly I really have not felt a gap or a lack of something in my gear so far. Everything that I have wanted to accomplished so far I've been able to do. There were a few times I wish I would have had a 100 to 400 or 200 to 600 but could never justify that purchase for such few occasions.

Depending on your preference, a good fast aperture portrait lens like 85 1/4-8 or a good wide angle like the 14/1.8

…. If you are getting a f1.4 lens with the a7cr , u should know u can’t use it properly outdoors in daylight at f1.4….

Max shutter is 1/4000 for efcs and 1/8000 for electronic shutter. And the a7cr e shutter is very very slow, like 1/10 secs? Even camera movement might introduce distortion. Nd filter is a must.

My policy is that any lens I buy needs to have a specific use case, and in many cases more than one, before I'll pull the trigger. And if life changes and those uses change, I'll sell the lens.

For me and landscapes, I'd want to add something like a 24GM to enable low-light shooting as well as great landscapes. Otherwise I'd say an ultra-wide to get shots with the A7CR that no other lens of yours could get. That's me though.

Perhaps an aps-c wide? To go with the 18-135? Noting that you have the 16-35 but not a mid-range on the ff side. But I'd agree on seeing how things go before adding something else.

For astrophotography I would get a Sony FE20 f1.8G (black friday deal or even used - depends on your budget).

If you shoot landscapes on the 35 end of your 16-35, then the 35 GM would be a nice addition. It is an amazing lens that is versatile in use from portraits to landscape, wide open or stopped down. I was recently in Paris and used almost exclusively just that lens. It is my go-to for all but the most expansive landscapes. The 24GM is also great but is likely covered nicely by your 16-35.
