I have lived in Hawaii since 1970. All my places have been in the area with a lot of rain. Although I have used a variety of closets, metal cabinets, and safes with a damp chaser rod I have had no problem with humidity affecting my lenses or cameras. Damp chasers are simple electric metal heating rods made for pianos, closets, etc. After plugging them in they are warm to the touch but will not cause burns or a fire if in contact with something. Putting them in an enclosure with shelves it is best to have wire shelves and the damp chaser on the floor. For the last 20 years I have had my equipment in a burglar proof safe. I just put the damp chaser in the bottom and shut the heavy metal door on the cord. Damp chasers are easily bought in hardware stores and come in several lengths.
