Lenses are expensive, but seeing this gives me an extra appreciation for the love and labor put into making these fine optics

In spite of robotic automation, still a great deal of painstaking, hands-on application under extremely demanding conditions.

Definitely a "Don't try this at home" project.

Minute 12:30 mark = OMG!
That's one job I'd never qualify for. It's amazing to see those are all hand painted like that. I always thought some type of silk-screening was used.

Cool find Indy. Almost mesmerizing to watch all the process.

That hand painting is mind blowing. Very cool video.

They're making the 24-70/2.8 DG DN and you see the SKU # 578 a few times before you see the more obvious indications, like the box/packaging at the end. There's one spot where I caught the date of Sept. 19, 2023, so it's a recent video. It also answers the question of how they make sure the serial number of the lens matches what's on the box.

Maybe they didn't show much of it but I'm wondering how many more, if any, centering/alignment checks are done during the process, rather than (presumably randomly) checking at the end. The whole final assembly is just push parts together, add shims and screw/glue it all in place, apparently without such checks. So the parts going together will need to be properly made to ensure everything is within specs.

This recent DPR written tour of the Sigma factory adds some additional details.

Every time I see a video like this, yes, I'm entranced by the product being created, but I'm more amazed at the technical minds behind the creation of the machines that put these together.

How does one think about the mechanics of the machinery, and then go out and build it?? That is true genius!!

I think every job has its "Holy CRAP! That is really cool." moments. I work in a moderate size regional hospital. Every day, surgeons cut open peoples' chests, hook them up to a cardiopulmonary bypass machine, stop their heart for 1-4 hours, surgically repair that heart, then put it all back together. All the while the anesthesiologist keeps said patient somewhere between awake and dead. These patients get up and walk around the next day. Reminds me of Dr. FRONK-N-STEEN. Build a lens? Piece of cake.

Iīd say more a promotion video. For me very interesting to watch, but not enough for me to buy a Sigma lens, The Tamrons that I have are enough for me, plus the superb Viltrox 16mm f1.8.

i would not have guessed in a million years there was still that much 'hands on' in the production in this day and age.

Interesting. I guess Sigma is the only company involved in photography that isn't producing videos for purely altruistic reasons.

This same video was posted in several forums at the same time. Yes, this post is propaganda.

I think you need to look up the meaning of the word propaganda.

At least I know the sole judge and jury for propaganda.

You are aware when anyone starts a thread, there is a section you can check to "Post to additional board". Thats a total of 2.

Yep, I am sure it was set up for propaganda by the site owner, Get Real !!

It was intended for those who might find it interesting to see how a lens is manufactured.

OPPS, I forgot this is a photographers forum !!!

It is extremely difficult to distinguish between regular forum members and marketing influencers/keyboard army forum members who pretend to be regular forum members.

You can than all (and there are quite a few here) those paid marketing members for my distrust. I'm sick of their tactics (derailing conversations if it mentions the product they represent in a negative light, grandizing their latest product while downplaying their previous product to get people to trade up, etc.). Forums should be only for people who actually purchase and use equipment; nit for sneaky marketing influencers/keyboard army members.

p.s. Any attack by any member for what I just said will most likely be by one of those paid influencers I just outed.

So according to your P.S., anyone who disagrees with you is a paid influencer. I guess thatīs a good way to make friends and "influence" people.

I can really apricate the machines and human talent that go into manufacturing theses lenses. It does make the price tag of some of them seem a bit more reasonable. It was fascinating to watch. With that said, I still have no interest in buying Sigma lenses even if they do eventually make R mount ones.
