Dear All

I shoot birds
D500 & Z8 with Sigma 60-600mm
Now main camera is Z8 with 60-600mm

I understand the fact that Z8 is a high MP camera which will tend to have some noise but im suffering a bit.
If expert here please help me
Im even getting Noise at the Blue Sky , some shots ranging from 800 iso to 1600 issue has plenty of Noise .

I came up from D500 ,D780 and D7200 ,although they were less MP but D500 was best among them in handling Noise.

Issue is purchasing an expensive camera with such noise sometimes you know makes you feel irritated.
im the person who didnt used much Topaz or Denoise ever. Now every post process has to go through Denoising first .

Further to Add , i use correct profile when Importing LR .
although when importing in "Camera settings " Luminance is adjusted automatically , which i dont prefer somehow . it should be Zero but if i make it zero myself, images have Alot of Noise .

Can you guys help here or link me to Post similar to this .I couldnt search for it as i only use Fredmirada for watching pictures

If you are using Lightroom, increase the masking slider under sharpening. LR applies global sharpening and will sharpen the "noise" in the sky by default

And, are you processing the raw file or a jpeg? Post processing jpegs, especially sharpening of smaller size ones will accentuate a lot more noise than starting with a good raw file.

Technically, pixel density on D500 and Z7/D850 is pretty close to each other and noise level should be very similar all else being equal. However, Z8 with stacked sensor does have measurable higher noise level than than Z7ii/D850 non stacked sensor but visually the difference is not all that different in my
experience. I sold my D500 a long time ago but looking at my old D500 raw files, I don't think I see lower
noise level on D500 than Z8 though.

I shoot BIF with my 60-600 using the D500/D850...noise is NOT an issue with either.

I cannot say if noise is worse in my Z8 vs my D850 (or D500). It seems about the same to me and if I have noise I just use software to denoise

I shoot in direct low light, rain, snow, fog or overcast....never in midday sun. Have not yet learned astrophotography but am fascinated by the heavens and what I know to be out there.

*There is one sure way I can be certain to have no noise in my images.... *direct low light*.* Other than that, there will be noise and I will use denoising software.

I do not use LR so I cannot comment on it. I always convert NEFs thru DXO and I sometimes use Topaz Ai.

Take a look at this video. Are the results you're seeing consistent with their examples within Lightroom?

This is the dynamic range of the D500 and the Z 8 at different ISO values.

Dynamic range is a good approximation of the maximum signal-to-noise ratio achievable at a given ISO level. The actual signal-to-noise ration depends primarily on the exposure level, i.e. avoiding under- or overexposure.

Adobe's base/default RAW conversion is the worst available currently for the Z8/Z9 files. Try using DXO to convert the RAW files and then bring them into LR for the remainder of your processing - I think you will find it dramatically reduces the amount of time you need to spend on each file compared to just opening it up in Adobe. You could also try Adobe's AI Enhance but I personally don't like how it applies the NR to the subject as well removing fine detail - give it a try though as you may have better luck with it.

All the bodies mentioned will show some noise in a blue sky at those ISOs if you are looking at 100%, the difference is probably the base amount of luminance NR that Lightroom is applying by default. Stacked sensors have slightly worse image quality compared to their non-stacked counterparts but it's not something you are likely to notice outside extreme scenarios.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I suspect you are using the raw converter in a less than optimal way. Moving sliders around can significantly increase noise. Using improper settings can do it as well.

Explain EXACTLY how you are processing the nef image -- be explicit. Then post the full image and a 100% crop of the problem area so we can see what you're describing.

Posting the image and crop -- to post an image here easily, join (buy) the upload gallery then an automated upload screen will show under your "reply" box. You will need to output the finals as jpegs in order to upload. Or, if you don't want to do that and have a public DropBox, you could load the raw file in your public folder there and then copy and share the link, and a few of us could then download it, process and post for you to compare.

1) already said this is a NEF/RAW thing
2) buying a sub here is the worst of all methods for uploading a file for critical inspection. host it somewhere online, and paste the URL that ends in .jpg into your post.

i import NEF files only

my camera shoots only RAW

and i do this by using camera setting

then when i zoom 100% ,it shows visible noise at even 400 iso

ok Denoise fixed this comprising sharpness

which im not use to of it

i dont denoise images much previously in my D500

main issue is i have less reach now in FX , but i have to crop it right to get my desired result?

so when i CROP , pops out the noise . In D500 the subject was at good reach . crop less

so when this noise appears i feel little irritated after spending huge amount

else no issue , its a great camera

may be ill need to spend some money on S line lens liek 600mm

which is expensive for me but ill save

Yes, I saw that and was editing my post as you posted. Yes, other image upload methods are better, but I said EASY...

Looking closely, you can see noise at ISO 160. That's why ISO 64 is better than ISO 160.

Apparent noise might be reduced by agressive noise reduction, and we don't really know what's going on under the hood in different cameras. But noise reduction, aggressive or not, does not improve the signal-to-noise ratio - it just reduces both signal and noise "information".

If possible, you should be shooting either iso 64 or iso 500 for cleanest results due to dual gain.
