Can you a recommend a good tripod for bird photography?  I would like to have  a mid-tier brand, not the most expensive one .

That would depend on the lenses and head you are going to use

here was the comparison sheet I made when buying

for heads I use:

Acratech Long Lens Head - great travel head, 1lb, the lightest head I would use for bird photography
Leofoto PG-1 - best overall price to performance, including weight
Manfrotto 502AH - best video head

for tripods I use:

Promedia TR344L34 - best big lens tripod (think 400mm, 600mm, 800mm)
Leofoto LS-284CEX - good medium tripod, usually use with smaller lenses (180-600, 100-400, wide angle, etc)
Ulanzi F38 or Zero Y - lightest weight, usually only use with small cameras

for me, tripod and tripod height weight is very important. my first ever birding setup was the Gitzo GT5543XLS and the Wimberly WH-200. that setup cost $2200 and weighed 10lbs!

now I often use the Promedia TR344L34 and Acratech long lens head, at a significantly cheaper $1700 and 5lbs
