I am wondering if any other Nikon users have this bracket or tried this bracket on the Nikon Z8 or Z9 for fit and function. RRS makes great stuff and this MC-LS Universal L-Bracket seems priced decently. Curious about real world use and feedback. Great forum!

Saw it last month at RRS in SLC. As with all their other gear built with thought and purpose. Will probably get this as a spare when using other bodies for limited time use. Its ability to modify is pretty well thought out.

Appreciate the feedback. Did you happen to see is on the NIkon Z8/Z9 specifically and from your perspective, did you feel it would work well on these bodies?

A lot of people use and like the Smallrig bracket for the Z8, it's also less bulky and you don't pay the ridiculous RRS tax. Another good one is from 3 Legged Thing.

On the Z9, most L brackets I tried interfered with the strap lug, I ended up with one from Promediagear that is adjustable enough to avoid the problem. If you don't use a strap this is a non-issue.

Universal brackets are OK if you like to move them from camera to camera or keep them a long time, otherwise the model-specific brackets are usually a little nicer and have anti-rotational features.

Thanks CanadaMark. I had not even considered small rig but in looking at their L-bracket as compared to RRS, I like that it is a bit lower profile. Will definitely give them a hard look.

the RRS so called tax is that it is built to a higher standard. built by people who think and care. the original smallrig for the Z9 was to say the least a failure in standards build. if you look at the differences between them mechanically it becomes apparent.

i use a QD based strap since 2008. QD was adopted by RRS back then. i use a Z9 and have the model specific L for that from RRS. it would be best to call RRS on fitting the Z9 i have confidence that the universal L will work well with Z8. you can buy it at B&H. it also has adaptable anti rotational points. i don't know what you consider your priorities. so see what is available on each. i do agree that camera specific brackets are the best option but only if they are built well.

i was at Yodobashi Camera in Osaka 2 weeks ago (yes i get around in my work) (my my, they sell everything right down to nifty rice cookers). they do sell smallrig. i guess i'm just used to a well designed and built hardware. good habits from my previous work/life. i feel what smallrig is exactly what they sell it for and that isn't much.

you will make the decision appropriately to you wants/needs
