I have a9, a7m4, a7r5 and a zve1 to be delivered this week.

I noticed the a7r5 lcd screen is really really good compared to a9 and a7m4. The colours, the tonal graduations, sharpness…

Question I have is, are the newer camera like zve1 and a7cii lcd screen closer to a7m4 or a7r5? How about A7r4a? Is the a7r4a just as good as the a7r5?

Why why does Sony cheap out on the lcd screen Previously I keep hearing Canon has better lcd screens and I always thought it as subjective nonsense, until I used the a7r5….

I would LOVE to see Sony come close to the screen on my IPhone 15. It’s one of the reasons that I’m using my phone more and my Sony A7RIII less.

Why does one need these fabulous lcd screens for? Other than possible composition and quickly reviewing your image, what else do you use the lcd for?

If you notice, Sony cameras have better battery life than the competition...may be things like the lcd screens are the reason.

Well, A9III has LCD screen covering DCI-P3 so it seems Sony is listening...

It is the usage experience….either one uses the evf or lcd. Its quality impacts the user experience so much. Yesterday I thought one of my photos actually looked wow on the a7r5 lcd screen, something I never experienced shooting for Sony for 7 years….

Even stuff like the 3.2 inch screen with the different aspect ratio really make a big difference, like a completely clutter free video live view.

Honestly, the Biggest upgrade I felt my a7r5 vs my a9 and a7m4 is the evf and lcd screen…. Ibis, ai af, etc I don’t feel the difference or only very rarely. The evf and lcd screen I noticed the difference every time….

It is like a stacked sensor, its impact is big and all the time. Ok, not as game changing as a stacked sensor but still more impt I feel vs stuff like ibis, ai af.

I don’t use the LCD myself anymore. If I need to chimp then I use the EVF. If I look at my pics I see them on a computer monitor or iPad.

I guess we use LCD's differently. I very rarely use the LCD when shooting. The only real time I use it is when shooting off a tripod for fine composition and focus. Other than that, I guess when I go into the menu. I have 3 different Sony cameras and honestly I cannot tell the difference of the LCD between them, even though they are generations apart.

The rear LCD provides the quickest feedback on how the captured image looks. In most creative work accurate feedback is essential to understanding what was created. If the feedback is of poor quality or incorrect it prevents getting things right in my humble opinion.

The EVF provides the necessary realtime interactive feedback to the process of capturing the image so it’s important as well. Some users will care more about the EVF or LCD or vise versa or both. These will both have an impact on the buyer camera choice. Sony for reasons that are unclear to me does not value the LCD as much as some of the other camera manufacturers it appears although that might be changing based on what the did on the A7RV and now the A9III. With the A1 and beyond they have had stronger commitment to the EVF.

My subjects don't stay around for a re-shoot if the image doesn't look good on the LCD. I very rarely chimp but am instead looking for my next shot.

I've shot film for many years without any feedback...you acquire the skill to know when you go the shot without having to check.
