I wouldn't expect to get many decent photos of the night race without proper gear, but it could be an interesting race to attend being that the track could be like racing on ice Saturday night. There could be more carnage than normal and a random winner if it's going to be as slick as expected with the cold track/tire temps.

I also have had no issues at Montreal or Austin for F1. Actually was considering Vegas recently as I saw prices have gone down, but don't want to hassle with it as I'm not sure how good of a race it'll actually be to watch from the grandstands, and I definitely would have wanted to take my A1/70-200 GM II combo with me.

Like others let us all know how it goes, I could be tempted into next year if the reports come back good!

I see the Vegas race is taking place 10PM to midnight. Heck, qualifying is going till 1AM!!
Will the lights be enough to get good photos without an f/2.8 lens?? Maybe but I think it will be difficult.

Due to 4k broadcasting and of course for driving at that speed, the F1 led lights are very powerful so it will be worst than daylight but in the ball pack of pro stadium lights.

But if the light is just too low focus on panning shoots, I bet you can get some good panning shots even with a iPhone 120mm lens.

Depending on the speed that they go in that section you can go as low as 1/15, this one is daylight 1/40, F13, ISO 250, 223mm

Maybe separate the lens from the body? Put a short wide angel ones on the body and just cap the telephoto lens. That way it looks less pro?

I usually don’t deal with as pro/tight security, and i use my 1DxIIs with 200-400, 300 and 70-200 as my ‘pass’. Usually for sports. Wear a ‘team’ polo and rock and roll…

How's it been going? I've been reading a lot of bad things about the F1 so far.
Is it fun as a spectator at least? Read something about paddock access being revoked for people?

The F1 is really boring lately, the engines are turbo so the sound is lame, they rely on DRS in order to overtake and the Red Bull's are way too good for the rest of the pack and the championship as well.

Lately? What about the 2014-2020 when 6xHamilton and Rosberg won everything with Mercedes? Or 2010-2013 when Vettel won everything with RB. Or the Schumacher-Ferrari domination in the early 2000´s? As with most sports you have to dig a bit deeper to find the excitement. In F1 the real drama is within the details, the speed of development, which team gets it right, which teams stall. What works where. Why does Ferrari dominate specifically (so far) in Las Vegas and in Singapore? Why does Mclaren suddenly struggle after the brilliant steps in development after the Summer break? Oh, Aston Martin is suddenly back after a dip! Sargent did suddenly very well in Williams after being almost totally lost before. An unknown track with no previous knowledge of tyre wear. When, not if, will the safetycar come in after someone trying out that wall that everyone is touching. Usually closer to the end of the race will the youngsters get tired and miss the breaking spot with a 1/100 of a second and... safetycar. Who will benefit from a free pitstop then? Who will be awake when they restart? So yes, it is boring, at times as all sports.

If you want instant excitement, try Sevens Rugby! Or Sumo

Yes, that's lately. You can still remember the battles from Schumi's era with Mika, Damon, Fernando, David and so on or the Brawn GP title. After that all we've seen was total dominance with 1 lap winning races, perfect to cure any sleep disorder. Lost all the natural aspirated engines with that glorious sound, rely on DRS for overtaking, stay at safe distance not to overheat the tires and pray for rain to have an exciting race. With no competition for the titles we're talking about everithyng else, but the race. Now, the LeMans this year was absolutely magnificent.

It was a top three race this season, surprisingly good, much action, safetycars, Leclerk once again slightly slow restarter. The track did not look like something that would bring much drama, but it really delivered.

That is, if you ment the race, not the photography stuff...
