This was my second time doing the Subway, again via the bottom up route. Last time, I got a few of the standard compositions quickly and impatiently after having waited an hour for a gaggle of tourists yelling splashing around the end section for over an hour. This time, I was the first one in the parking lot and boots on trail before sunrise. Had the Subway area to myself for over an hour, so I tried to make the most of it.

Did an HDR merger on this one, on account of the light difference between the foreground and the canyon walls in the sun in the background. Tried to adjust the light/shadow levels to not give it that psychedelic HDR look, but it still doesn't look quite like the other shots.

Great stuff. 3 and 4 are my favourites. I would have removed that stick in #1 but I know some people don't like to do that. I would also consider adding a touch more saturation on the yellows to make the leaves pop a bit more - but again, that's a taste thing. Fine work all round!

Goodonya getting up early. I love being in such a magical place by myself or just my little group (of quiet geezers). My wife and I did the same at The Wave a couple years ago and that hour was very special.

You took good advantage of your time and got some sweet shots. I'm with you on HDR often looking fake, in super high contrast situations I default like you did in most of these composing to leave out either the brightest or darkest areas. In the subway the lower area is the star and you did well shooting that.

Nice set. Every shot is well composed. Zion is one of my favorite places. When my wife and I hiked to the Subway years ago I think we saw one other group the entire time. My how times have changed.

That's a good point about the stick, I didn't think of that while I was there. Will have to play with the yellow saturation before getting any of these done up for my wall or family calendar. Thank you for those points to improve!
