Apologies if this has already been answered; Does anyone know where the pre-capture data is stored ? Is it being constantly written to the card(s) or is it stored internally and only written to the card when the shutter is pressed?

I suspect there is some internal storage, would writing and re-writing data to the card while the shutter is half-pressed potentially cause some long-term issues with the cards?

All cameras utilize the internal camera memory/buffer for this functionality, as far as I know.

...looks like it packs a wallop for my interests...global shutter, 10-bit internal 4K 120P, HEIF stills, 9.4MP EVF.

Now, if someone can do all this but at 8K resolution I'll be set, I take this release as a harbinger of things to come!

Why did Sony move the movie record button back to beside the viewfinder

? Can’t they freaking decide where to put the button?
