p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Nikon ZF users -- how is it with glasses?

I'm a great candidate (on paper, at least) for a ZF. I don't care about user banks, largely work in manual or aperture priority, use mostly small primes or relatively small zooms, and don't have a great need for more than 24 million really good pixels. Plus, I still have the black FE2 that I have put many hundreds of rolls of film through, and I still love it.

But: one of the (many) things I like about my Z6II is how comfortable it is to shoot with glasses on (far better than any of the earlier DSLRs, in my experience). The ZF has the same viewfinder specs (magnification, eyepoint, etc.), but two things are a little different: the viewfinder is shifted to a more centered position, and it sits slightly shallower, relative to the plane of the back of the body.

My question: do those things impinge at all on your comfort shooting with glasses on? Does it feel more cramped, like you have to mash it up against your face, or is it still as comfortable as a Z6/7?

Coming from a Z 6, Z 7 and Z 7II, the Z f is actually very comfortable to use. I wear large glasses and find it very easy to peer into the EVF and also use manual focus. The only other camera that has been even more comfortable to use has been the Leica SL (Typ 601). Round eyecups tend to be much better for me, as a glasses wearer.

A slight caveat is that my nose is not very pronounced, so your experience may vary :^)

Good to hear -- thanks! I have a moderate-sized schnoz, FWIW. Would be glad to hear anyone else's reactions, too, if any of you have them.

Of course, what I'd truly love is the ZF guts in a rangefinder-style body (like a digital S), but they obviously didn't call me first for design tips.

I find the Zf easy to use with my eyeglasses, but I don't have a Z6/7 to compare with.

It would be safest to try it out in a store before you buy, just in case.

I'm on my local shop's list -- it's just a small town, and might be a while. Trying to decide whether to jump on one earlier.

The Zf inherited the feature of making the viewfinder image slightly smaller from the Z9 and Z8 which helps if you wear glasses.

As someone who is an avid fan of the Fujifilm X-Pro series but sometimes kinda miss the full frame look, that is something that would make seriously consider switching systems.

Interesting — thanks. A curious wrinkle: I see that the specs for the Z9 viewfinder match the Zf and Z6ii, at .8x and 21mm eyepoint. The Z8 is similar, except with a 23mm eyepoint.

I've shot the Z6II before and have a Zf/Z8. I honestly never noticed any differences while wearing glasses. I also shoot with my left eye if that makes a difference.

I had Z7, still have Z7 ii, Z8, and also Zf. My only complain is that even with Small Rig grip, it is still a little too small for my hans but I made do as I like the form factor very much
No issue with smaller lenses definitely.
I also wear glasses and no issue with viewfinder as far as my glasses is concerned.
The only thing I noticed is that my nose tend to bump the LCD screen a bit. I set the LCD screen to
focus magnifier when using manual lenses. So I can look in the viewfinder and use my nose to bump the LCD screen to bring up magnifier. Works really well in conjuction with eye detection in manual focus mode. However, I notice that I get into manifier mode a bit more often than I intended.

However, since I never let LCD screen to any function on my Z7 ii or Z8/Z9, I have no idea if this happens more frequently with Zf or not.

No issues with the ZF viewfinder and glasses. I generally prefer the Nikon circular viewfinders on the Z9/Z8/ZF and D850 as they work better than a square shape to create a seal around my lenses (so there's less intrusion of light in bright environments). Also with the DSLRs can use various screw on magnifying diopters like the DK17.

No issues with glasses here either. I don't wear typical eyeglasses but I do wear sunglasses when it is very sunny out. I'll just crank the EVF brightness up and make the display smaller (on Zf, z8/ z9) for longer eye relief. Works great!
