The first Northern Shovelers have arrived at Kissena Park here in New York City. They tend to stay in the center of the lake yet I found a spot where they were feeding near the shore so I staked that spot out and eventual was able to get a close up of a female.

Oh, nice spot you've found there! Northern Shovelers can be pretty skittish, so getting close enough for a good pic is solid work.
