The summer wedding season is winding down and we've had the opportunity to try many different Canon lenses. Our favorite is the RF 50mm 1.2L for it's incredible rendering even at f/2.8! However, the EF 35mm 1.4LII also renders beautifully and our choice for a slightly wider perspective if needed. We used the RF 28-70 for a faster paced timeline without switching lenses and it was quite useful too, but just preferred the rendering of the 50mm 1.2L. One pleasant surprise was the RF 16mm f/2.8. This lens is a little jewel for receptions, dance and fun perspectives. We keep the RF 24-70 on our second camera and it's just astonishing at how sharp that lens is. Probably the most useful too as it can focus really close (almost macro) for detailed photos.

Borrowing the 28-70 for a couple of events this weekend. Want to experience that rendering first hand.

With a little distance @f/2 and 70mm, the 28-70mm is incredible for portraits, vows, groups, etc.! We're probably going to add it our tools for the upcoming season. The bonus of not changing lenses is liberating and with more RF lenses coming online, more affordable too. 28mm is actually my preferred wide FL as there's no distortion or stretching when turned in portrait orientation like the 24mm.

I try to work the 35 into weddings but things are usually moving so fast that I feel more secure with the 15-35. On slower events I'll just rock the 35/85 but that's seldom

first place: 28-70 f2. simply a fun lens to rock a wedding. just sometimes not wide enough.
2nd) rf 70-200 f2.8 or rf 15-35 f2.8

3rd) rf 85 f1.2/rf135 f1.8

Must say.... the 24-105 f2.8 will probably take over for the 28-70.
Mainly because I am shooting more video.
Granted more of a tripod lens or mono-pod lens.

Camera 1: 24-70 2.8 Versatility, the workhorse for me.

Camera 2:
- 70-200 2.8 for ceremony
- 35 1.4 with on camera flash bounced or direct
- 50 1.2 for getting ready and details
- 14 1.8 for dance floor with on camera flash direct

The EF85L 1.2 at f1.2 on my 1DsIII at iso200 often with a 3 stop ND when I shot weddings.

The EF50L 1.2 worked well at my son's wedding for the few shots taken 3 weeks ago.

The EF200L IS 2.0 was my second favorite.

Those were the days

Dragonfire, you'd be amazed at the wide-open sharpness difference between the old EF jumbo primes and the new ones. It's like they're from a different manufacturer. And no more "is it going to focus?" behavior on the 85. The new one locks onto an eye in an instant. And no more wicked purple fringe in backlit scenerios. THESE are the good old days.

Lee, when Canon releases the R1 I will get the 85DS and my wife will never know because it looks almost exactly like my EF setup. We have a grand daughter on the way so I will have a willing subject.

If anyone has wedding images from the RF135 ƒ1.8, I'd love to see them. Still have a love for the legacy 135L but sale pricing on refurbs might get enticing next Spring.

It would be fun to look at photos of the 28-70mm @f/2/70mm for portraits and the RF 85 @f/1.2 and even compare at f/2.
I used the RF 85mm 1.2L, but aside from the technical perfection over the EF version, i just preferred the character of the EF 85mm. Fringing aside @f/1.2, the EF is simply sublime.

Ugh - that focus.

I recall Katelyn James did a 70mm vs 85mm YouTube shoot-out with the two lenses in question. No way can the zoom make things float like the prime does but your impressions may vary. I was disappointed that the 28-70 couldn't hang on the super dark dance floor. Had to either turn on the video light on a B10 or just grab for the 35L II. I chose the latter. Another wedding today — the evaluation continues.

I miss the 135 compression, but the 85 has such an easier working distance - is seems you lose subject connection when you go too far back. Anyone have an RF135 ƒ1.8 pics?

Curious about prime lens users. How often are you shooting with aperture more open than 2.8 ?

I primarily use zooms, but will go with a prime and shallow dof for single person shots.
