Might be a very hard sell because of that but from a technical perspective I can see the appeal. It's more in line with something like the Tamron 35-150/2-2.8 and I think it's great that companies are pushing the envelope

At the price, it's not for me. But oh boy if money was no issue....this is my favorite walk around range (24-105). But the weight would also make it less fun to walk around with. I'll stick with my f/4 version. But this is a beauty of a lens.

Two signsture canon lenses this week. This and the 200-800. Exciting. The lineup is really getting some nice, if expensive, pieces. 3rd party next please!

Unlike the longer 200-800 rumor/speculation thread, the 24-105/2.8 non-speculative, verified, release information is found starting at the top of the third page. Not so hard to find...

I wish I had a practical use for this amazing lens. If I did, I wouldn't hesitate on snatching one up. This has got to be a dream lens for so many people.

I'm surprised no video folks have mentioned the new Canon PZ-E2 Power Zoom Adapter designed for this incredible len. I've never seen such a device.

Oh boy, this lens definitely got my attention (although I don’t currently shot with Canon). It was a bit disheartening to see the weight though, this is clearly more a on-location workhorse than a travel / street lens as far as I see it. I guess I was hoping for around 1000 grams or so. But a damn interesting lens for sure, especially if you indeed do some video on the side as well.

Definetly an eye catcher. Looking back at my EF days it would have been a must buy to replace the 24-70/2.8.

Alas looking at it from my RF perspective I find it hard to slot in for use. Currently the 28-70/2 gets paired with the 135/1.8 or 100/2.8 and although the 24-105/2.8 would save from a weight perspective and give me coverage from 24-28 above 70 in most cases I would still pair the 28-70 with the 135 or the 100 if I anticipated macro shooting. Now if I was still shooting video although extra cost Canon PZ-E2 Power Zoom Adapter would move this lens into the must buy category for me.

I am going to start working out because I need this lens for my wedding photography. Seriously thinking of selling my 24-70, 70-200, and 50 1.2 and just getting this lens and some of the smaller 1.8 primes.

Nothing like having to add a brick to a brick, thankfully they didn't try to integrate that Power Zapper into the lens!

Looking at the MTFs I'm guessing this won't be a 'buy' for me (compared to both existing EF and RF variants), though I really would love my RF24-105/4 to be less... soft.

Looking at the form factor/optical design, it's so hard for me to visualize that it actually performs well at 24mm, but I'm no optical engineer...

This appears to be another lens with smaller than full frame coverage from Canon. That is their trend. You can see in the CVP video their vignetting test shows uncorrected, the corners are black once again.

If money were not an an issue, I still would not buy this lens. Frankly, I'm disappointed at how large and heavy lenses have become. When all the big camera manufacturers began shoving their "latest, greatest" mirrorless cameras down our throats, I was hoping to see smaller, better performing lenses. Obviously that has not been the case except for the few Canon RF "plastic fantastic" offerings (RF 16mm, RF 28mm, etc.).

I'm probably the only person in the world that appreciates good, small lenses (like the old Nikkor AiS primes of yesteryear), so I'm not expecting Canon or Sony to make any good, small primes any time soon.

If money were no object I would buy into Leica, as they produce exactly what I'd like. I just can't spend $25,000 on an M11 with three primes at this time.

Well, if they're aiming this at the video market, the 16:9 aspect ratio (or whatever is used) crops out the corners, so maybe it'll be acceptable? Then there is the C70 which has a super 35 sensor.
