It's gotta be a false rumor.
Canon never "innovates" according to the trolls um... errr... I mean experts that frequent the Canon forum.

I hope that rumor is true, and I hope even more that it has better IQ than both EF/RF variants (I know it's a tough range, optically). Hard to imagine it's only 77mm filter size, and I don't know why I'd need any sort of 'power zoom' feature.

Yeah, if you're trying to make money with your gear, it's getting increasingly difficult to avoid also doing video. A 24-105/2.8 would be pretty big, but if it is internal zooming, it would maintain better centering/balance on a gimbal and the roughly 4x zoom range would be a lot more versatile than 24-70, meaning less need/desire for lens changes.

For stills, f/2.8 gets you closer to the fast prime look (hopefully they make its rendering/bokeh attractive like the 28-70 and not like the 24-70) and while the 100-300 is huge, if you have a use/need for it, it makes keeping a 70-200 on a second body very irrelevant (thinking traditional sports coverage where a long tele prime would be on one camera and a 70-200 on another).

As a companion to the 100-300, especially being internally zooming, I think many pros will love it. It looks like too much of a big chungus for me to take it on my travels unfortunately, but that's OK since I'm sure it'll be priced out my league anyway. I still can't wait to see how it performs though.

Thinking about companions, I wonder if Canon is making a companion to the 10-20/4, like a 20-70/4... That'd be pretty slick! I'd also be fine with a 20-50/2.8 as I could still pair that with a 70-200 for most styles of photography. Or,

Don't forget the 70-135/2 companion to the 28-70/2 that has yet to arrive even though they've had since 2018 to do so.

Not a lens I'm interested in but it sounds really impressive. Canon proved with the 28-70mm f2 and 100-300mm f2.8 that they can make zoom lenses unlike anything before while still providing great image quality and I hope this lens follows in those footsteps.

Admittedly I'm disappointed it wasn't the 35mm L getting released; I've been waiting on that one for a while.

The lens looks great! The most interesting thing will be how the powerzoom will be implemented:
1.) Zoom by wire
2.) Still physical coupling to zoom ring, but also controllable by motors (like old style USM full-time focusing rings)

I do expect a very high price (~$4000).

I have the RF 24-70 f/2.8 and the RF 24-105 f/4.0 so I am not really interested in this lens. When i need fast, I have the f/2.8, and when I need light weight I have the f/4.0
If I need the 70-105 range, I have the RF 70-200 f/2.8.

This gonna be a very popular lens among photojournalists, event photographers, and especially videographers. My prediction is price will be around the same as the RF 28-70 F/2L.

I also have the 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8.

I think this lens is not for us regular photographers.

Who I think this might be for:
1.) Video - it might have some tricks like super smooth zooming and/or it might be parfocal.
2.) For really bad elements (dusty safari). This lens on one body and 100-300 f/2.8 on a another body and you don't have to change lenses ever.
3.) If they get fancy maybe you can program the zooming in an app and do some super cool remote timelapses.

I am sure there might be other uses.

This reminds me of the rumored TS-e lenses with motorized movements, it is a new era.

After looking at the picture and giving it some though. I think the lens pictured is more likely an internal zoom 70-200 2.8, also a rumored lens. I wonder if the picture is wrong or the rumor is wrong. Either way I'd be happy but not likely to upgrade my EF 70-200 2.8. But a 24-105 2.8 would be amazing! The auto zoom feature rumor has me a bit nervous for a couple of reasons, gimmicky, aimed at video ect.

Very cool if is really a power zoom, Sony has a 24-135 F4 power zoom https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1082051-REG/sony_selp28135g_e_pz_28_135mm_f_4.html

This one being a f2.8 will be very popular for video.... I think for event and sport photo too depending how the zoom by wire will work.

My pure guess is that will be > 3.5k .... as the F4 Sony is already 2.5k

This is no doubt a cinema lens for the C series. Actually I had complained Canon didn't have a general purpose power zoom for video outside of the CN-E 18-80mm T4.4. Well here it is and I'm sure, like the 18-80mm, it's going to be expensive. I'm curious if it can be outfitted with an ENG grip with zoom rocker or external zoom demand like the 18-80mm or 17-120mm.

Here's hoping there'll be a more affordable version like the Sony 18-110mm/24-135mm mentioned above. Who are we kidding though (:

I agree, it could be 82mm as its difficult to tell from the fuzzy fluffy picture floating about.

I also agree with @Pete73@ that the fuzzy photo could be fake or just simply crossed with an image of the rumored internal zooming/focusing EF 70-200 f/2.8. I feel that something is askew. Oh, and why the deviation from the traditional Canon white?

Because lenses this short (starting at 24mm) have never been white.

I think what's throwing me off are the proportions of the lens rendered in the fuzzy photo look too long for a 24-105mm lens while looking more like a 70-200mm telephoto?

Oh, you said short as in focal length not physical length.
Never mind.

To me it looks very very fake. Maybe someone couldn't take a snap and made it up in PS.

Look at the top of both rubber rings. Not good.
Function button Sony / Sigma style? Yeah right.
Looks like EF 70-200mm recolored with bits added and removed. Just fake.

Looks like a 70-200 to me. But I guess a 70-200 would be white.

Again, Canon releases something which appeals more to videographers.
