I have to say the Canon zooms I have are pretty crappy for smooth zoom pulls in video that I'm starting to do more of now...

If I needed DOF I'd get an 85. Otherwise between IBIS and modern NR AI not sure that would appeal to me. RF 24-70 2.8 would be plenty I would think. You can crop a bit too.

There is that button on the side which I think I've seen on the big primes? Maybe there is another on the other side for the other direction. Seems ergonomically it would be pretty good. Get a grip and extra batteries.

It looks like it will be 77mm filter size same as the RF 24-70mm f/4L since the front element size is driven by the same retrofocus charisitic at the 24mm end of things even though it is a stop faster.

I hope that rumor is true, and I hope even more that it has better IQ than both EF/RF variants (I know it's a tough range, optically). Hard to imagine it's only 77mm filter size, and I don't know why I'd need any sort of 'power zoom' feature.

Canon designs tend to be aimed at hybrid shooters. A silky smooth power zoom would be ideal for video use.

As a companion to the 100-300, especially being internally zooming, I think many pros will love it. It looks like too much of a big chungus for me to take it on my travels unfortunately, but that's OK since I'm sure it'll be priced out my league anyway. I still can't wait to see how it performs though.

Thinking about companions, I wonder if Canon is making a companion to the 10-20/4, like a 20-70/4... That'd be pretty slick! I'd also be fine with a 20-50/2.8 as I could still pair that with a 70-200 for most styles of photography. Or, you could say a 35-150/2.8 would be a sweet companion to the 14-35/4 even if it would make more sense to make it f/4. At any rate, if Canon decide to make a 20-50 or 35-150, I'd be pretty interested, as long as they aren't as large as this 24-105/2.8 appears to be. Can't be mad about the innovation though!

Hard to believe that a wider zoom range would have a smaller filter than the 24-70/2.8 does.

Its got to be a pretty big beast. But oh is it so tempting....i love the f/4 L versions of this lens. Never felt like 24-70 was quite enough for me. But not sure I'll want to lug this beast around. Have to see the weight specs in a day or so. And the cost of course. $3k at least. Maybe $3200.
