That's not what I've said. I said the R5 is the best camera for handling when shooting big lenses.
Handling has nothing to with balance. Balance is just a matter of finding the centre of gravity with your left hand, using the right hand to operate the camera.

Hmmmm ok

How do you like the Sony system as it compares to the R5 for colors and usability?

The R5 is a bit better for SOOC colors, but it's not like the A7IV is unusable or anything like that. The A7IV is very good, the R5 is a stellar. The R5 is also better for judging by looking through the viewfinder what kind of EC is needed.
The R5 feels a bit better for handling, however, the A7IV is fine for me.

I can't deny that the 50 1.2 GM is pretty interesting to me...it's fast and looks like it balances very well on Sony.

The f/1.2 GM is suitable for work around purposes. The 40mm Art isn't, however, I've done it with a peak design capture, and that way it's doable. I have two peak design captures, one at each belt of my bag, so I can also switch from right to left and vv. That's nice with heavy lenses so you can give one shoulder a break using the other one. It's also nice when carrying a kid, so you can change the kid to the other arm without the camera being in the way. And with less heavy lenses you can do two cameras as well. All the complaining about heavy lenses is relatively BS, you just need the right equipment to handle it.

The 50mm GM is a bit more portrait oriented. The 40mm Art is more a lens for things, structures, the lens won't hide any contrast.
I've done my research. I've rented the RF 50mm f/1.2 L. It's heavier than the GM, and it focuses slower than the 40mm Art let alone the GM.
The GM has everything, it's a light weight lens, the focus is blazingly fast, and the rendering is beautiful. It's more affordable than the RF L. It's also a tad wider than 50mm, it's more like 47mm or so, adding to walk around usefulness. You can do sports, walk around stuff and portraits with it. It might sound crazy to shoot action at f/1.2, but the AF is capable enough, and f/1.2 is certainly helping for getting you fast shutter speeds.
The 40mm Art on the R5 focuses very fast and accurate too, but not as otherworldly as the GM on the A7IV. The 40mm Art is the sharpest lens at same apertures, sharper than the RF L and sharper than the GM. I still think it's the sharpest non telephoto lens. All lenses these are sharp enough of course, character is way more important.

If you're worried about SOOC, you might have a look at the A7CII, A7CR or the A7RV. These cameras will do a better job for SOOC compared to the A7IV and other Sony cameras. Canon is ahead of Sony, but it's not like Sony isn't making any progress. You might want to wait for the A7V as the A7RV is quite expensive, and the other ones don't have full mechanical shutter (generally not ideal for f/1.2 lenses).

I do not find 'balance' objectionable with the 50mm art plus adapter on my R6. The overall length is nearly identical to what it was on my 5D3, with the adapter just taking up the space the mirror housing on the 5D3 did. Maybe vs. an R6 with a native 50mm there would be a difference, as it may be shorter overall. But as someone said above, just pick it up, place your hands where they naturally go and shoot. Its not a big deal.

OK, I'll be the one to say it. Maybe it's time to give medium format a spin? Fuji GFX100s can be had used for about $4K now. The new 55 f1.7 is like a 45mm on FF, so close enough to your fast 50.

Anyway, I want to adapt ART primes to a mirrorless and the FTZ is a funky prospect IMO. The Canon seems like such a better setup for that, no doubt because of the mount diameter similarities.
!

So what is exactly wrong with nikon ftz?!

I thought Z8 and by extension Z9 are far better cameras than anything canon currently has on offer.

I am actually planning to swap my 5Ds for A7RIV for high res work with EF ART glass. I just can't deal with the AF and DR of that body any more.

By the way adapting is fine on R6. AF is very very good. I just don't like the plastic small body with rubbish EVF.

But once I got over the Dxo nonsense I’ve been curious of the Canon bodies…I’m a maximalist, so my mind was always like “sensor tech!!” and the Nikon/Sony sensors (Sony’s) just seemed better…but that’s not the whole story, especially for portraiture, which I do…It’s not a wonder that like 80% of the editorial

Not sure I can offer too much help here, but one thing it seems you may not be considering - is Sony E glass on Nikon Z bodies.

I have 2x Z9 and a 1x Z8, and the majority of my glass is Sony E Mount. The Megadap ETZ21 adapter works flawlessly, and it's soooo thin compared to Canon.

Gives you access to a wide variety of sigma lenses, that Canon definitely doesn't have and probably won't have anytime soon

Thank you! I had one once. Probably not the pro and it was a little funky

Do you think these are good enough for actual paid word (like work where you have to rely on something working).

I said before that if sigma made an adapter like this I would buy it in a heartbeat. But if the megadap is up to snuff, I'd try it again!

Mine is anecdotal of course, but I trust the megadap ETZ adapters a heck of a lot more than Canon bodies lol.

I've never had a megadap adapter fail or have issues, but every single R5 I owned got the error 70 at one point or another

ymmv

That's a solid endorsement! 😇

Do you have the Pro or regular (or V2, I think it is)? Thank you

I've just got the normal one. My understanding is you can load the pro firmware onto it.but I've not done much more research than that

Well this would certainly be a cheaper option then swapping systems. And could tide me over until I start seeing some be glass on the Z platform. I also anticipate other folks making these adapters soon. Maybe more established like the way metabones and fotodiox did with Sony

If you don’t want to spend the $ on the r5, the r8 for $1200 plus the canon RF 50 1.2 would be a fantastic combo. The only issue for me is the lack of a joystick, as I like to be able to switch eyes with the joystick, but there might be a workaround for that. The canon RF 50 1.2 is a beautiful lens.
