Beyond the eastern reaches of the mighty Vatnajokull glacier in Iceland lies the wilderness of Lónsöræfi*, a desolate realm of wonder and awe. Here amid strange formations and rugged canyons, Nature’s brush has gone to town with a colour palette that looks unreal. This is the inaugural instalment of a series devoted to this remote gem.

* Pronounced lones-uh-rye-we.

1st two are amazing view from Iceland alone, but last one (headless Reindeer) is bit wintry.

I've gotten email expressing displeasure over the last photo. But I'm a photographer and this is a cultural tradition in Iceland (regulations for hunting are strict with a limited number of permits issued). It is usually very hard to get a human in a photo in that area.
