p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Inserts for 3/8" rod in super clamp?

I'm trying to use a super clamp to mount a microphone boom arm. The boom arm has a 3/8" rod at the end and the standard super clamp has difficulty getting a good grip on a round rod of that thickness. I'm currently using gaffer's tape around the rod which helps but it's still not a firm grip.

Does anyone make rubber, V-inserts or is there another solution?

I use stuff like this.

The 'joiner nut' lets me attach a pair of 3/8 threaded rods, or attach a 3/8" threaded rod to a baby stud, as shown in the first image.

Using a hex baby (as shown in the second image) would be better, but mine is the wrong pitch; it's probably metric.

The third image shows the 3/8" threaded rod going straight into a SmallRig clamp. It works gerat for lighter loads.

Gotta go. It's game time. Go Pats!

That doesn't work for me because the rod at the end of the arm is unthreaded and pressed metal. It's not a solid piece

OK. Can you grab sideways, it in the jaws of a super clamp (or SmallRig clamp) ? If so, then a joined-pair of super clamps might do it.

The problem is that the superclamp needs a bigger diameter to make a good grip. Probably needs 5/8". The diameter of the tube on the arm is 3/8. I slipped a hard rubber sleeve over it which makes it a little better. I'm thinking that a couple of rubber v-inserts would solve the problem.

I'm probably going to order a different arm which has a thicker base but my concern is that I'm then adding a lot of weight to a couple offset arms.

Yuo cuold grab the rod with a SmallRig clamp, and then grab the SmallRig with a super clamp.

Yes.

An alternative could be to stick a "Joining Arm" into the superclamp, and then secure the boom's rod along its length. I'd use duct tape and zip ties.
