How many weddings do you do per day?
Just wondering if the 28-70 would be that much of a problem if doing one or two 90 minutes sessions per day. But I don't know the typical workload of a destination wedding photographer and maybe you do way more per day?
In any case, this lens is a significant reason I'm still with Canon after transitioning to mirrorless, but I primarily do corporate style events and not typically out in blazing hot sun. The 28-70 really is an equivalent to primes at the traditional prime focal lengths. But it won't be replacing your 85/1.4 and you'll still need to figure out coverage up to 200mm. For me, like a previous poster, I pair the 28-70 with an 85 and 135 prime. In my case, the EF 85/1.4 and the new RF 135/1.8. I've found in most cases I don't miss not having 200mm, but I still bring along a 70-200/4 to cover that. Maybe that's a decent second camera/lens option to complement the 28-70 in your situation if you can give up the fast 85 (probably a key look for your images, and understandably might be difficult to do). As to your comment about the 28-70 not covering 24mm, well, neither does your current 28-200...
If the stuff you're doing with the 28-200 wouldn't really benefit from being able to shoot at f/2 between 28-70, then I'm not sure there's a point to changing your current set up....Show more →
Thank you for the very insightful post. Yes, I made a blunder re: 24mm, lol
I average 3 - 4 weddings per day; 6 - 7 days per week, so the added weight of the f/2 zoom would be significant.
And, being a narrow DoF junkie, I *would* miss shooting @ 1.4 for sure
Anyway, looking at a 45" wide monitor (currently use 2x 32" side by side) to spark my business.
Have a great Halloween!
