Ran into an acquaintance carrying 2xD500, one with the 300pf, the other having the 200-500, and binoculars. He had Black Rapid straps, let go of everything and claimed it didn't weigh anything. So you might look into different straps etc

I use the SpiderPro belt (for over 15 years) and would *never* consider moving my gear up to my shoulders.

But I appreciate the input!

~ but ~ I am a destination wedding shooter and rarely have over 90 minutes *total* with a couple (including the 20 min ceremony!)

So I have to "get the shots" rather than am able to "create" the shots, if that makes sense.

If you're not doing other stuff because you don't have the gear and you're not getting other gear because you're not doing other stuff.... GAS can be a good thing to break that circle.

The other way to break that circle is to think first what other kinds shooting you could do. Probably not easy if you have to pay the bills with it, but hey, you're a blessed person for loving your job anyway. Looking for extra sparks can be the biggest enemy of something good. Still, think about shooting a (slightly) different product.

For GAS: a 35mm f/1.4 GM makes sense if you have 2 bodies and a stellar 85mm. If you don't like the Tamron 35-150mm because of weight the stabilized Zeiss 135mm f/2.8 can open up other possibilities at even a bit less weight than the 85mm. In my market used copies are relatively affordable.

Another thought: if you want to upgrade the bodies, wait for the A7V. That one will have the extra AF chip the A7CII has. You can save up a little further, and time is on your side as your A7III bodies are capable enough anyway.

How many weddings do you do per day?

Just wondering if the 28-70 would be that much of a problem if doing one or two 90 minutes sessions per day. But I don't know the typical workload of a destination wedding photographer and maybe you do way more per day?

In any case, this lens is a significant reason I'm still with Canon after transitioning to mirrorless, but I primarily do corporate style events and not typically out in blazing hot sun. The 28-70 really is an equivalent to primes at the traditional prime focal lengths. But it won't be replacing your 85/1.4 and you'll still need to figure out coverage up to 200mm. For me, like a previous poster, I pair the 28-70 with an 85 and 135 prime. In my case, the EF 85/1.4 and the new RF 135/1.8. I've found in most cases I don't miss not having 200mm, but I still bring along a 70-200/4 to cover that. Maybe that's a decent second camera/lens option to complement the 28-70 in your situation if you can give up the fast 85 (probably a key look for your images, and understandably might be difficult to do). As to your comment about the 28-70 not covering 24mm, well, neither does your current 28-200...

If the stuff you're doing with the 28-200 wouldn't really benefit from being able to shoot at f/2 between 28-70, then I'm not sure there's a point to changing your current set up.

Thank you for the very insightful post. Yes, I made a blunder re: 24mm, lol

I average 3 - 4 weddings per day; 6 - 7 days per week, so the added weight of the f/2 zoom would be significant.

And, being a narrow DoF junkie, I *would* miss shooting @ 1.4 for sure

Anyway, looking at a 45" wide monitor (currently use 2x 32" side by side) to spark my business.

Have a great Halloween!
