As to the rangefinder-style camera… I think Canon has a better chance of success with that, and for a bunch of reasons.
- They could deal with the lens issue (namely the lack of essentially contemporary lenses with aperture rings) on this camera without having to invest a lot in multiple lenses. Yes, I’m thinking of a fixed lens body at first, like the Fujifilm X100v.
- That style of camera is fairly hot right now, and in markets that extend beyond the usual Canon camera market.
- A fair number of Canon users with larger Canon bodies and lenses could well want one of these as a smaller second camera.
In order to differentiate from similar products from other manufacturers (e.g. Fujifilm) I think they would want to make it full frame, likel with a sensor with about 40MP, keep it compact, and initially make the price reasonable.
