p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Viewfinder Magnifier for Leica M-10 series cameras

I was recently asked to document a wedding, I own amongst other lenses 90 summicron-m as well as a 50 summilux aspherical v1.

Does anyone have any experience with the Light Lens Lab 1.4 magnifier?
The leica branded magnifier + the additional adapter ring to fit onto an m10(m10-R) body is too high of an expense.

With the 90/50 lenses in mind, how close will the frame lines get to filling up the entire viewfinder?
I tried to google the questions but got a lot of 2nd and 3rd hand accounts without many people actually having 1st hand knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

You might get more replies if you cross-post this on the Leica & Alternative board.

I have the Leica 1.4x somewhere but rarely use it. It's a hassle to put on and remove if you change lenses frequently and if some of those bring up frame lines that will be cropped out by the magnifier.

From what I remember, 90mm frame lines will be fine, as expected. I think 50 is still usable.

If you're having trough hitting focus with those lenses, and they're both correctly calibrated for your camera's rangefinder, I'd first recommend buying the appropriate viewfinder diopter correction lens before investing in a magnifier, if you haven't already done so.

My experience was that even though I only needed a weak correction amount, it made the rangefinder patch much easier to see clearly, which made focusing lenses like the 50 easier. The 90 will always be tricky, IMO. With a wedding, you might not have a lot of time to fiddle around trying to get perfect focus. I'd recommend practicing a lot with both lenses, maybe walking around the house quickly focusing on things to see how well you do.

If you have a secondary DSLR or mirrorless system with a portrait lens, considering bringing it along as a back up in case it gets too frustrating with the M. You could keep working with 50mm and wider lenses on the M and let AF be your friend when doing telephoto work.

Thanks for the info. My vision as of three years when i last visited the optometrist was 20/10, i can see the patch relatively fine. while walking around (i.e. while at disneyland or chasing my kids around) i can conservatively nail focus 6, maybe 7 frames out of 10 @ f/1.4.
I just think it'd be neat to have a 50 fill up my entire viewfinder, i come from shooting SLR's for nearly 20 years so losing the information in the viewfinder out side of my frame isn't necessarily the end of the world to me.

As for having a second camera, thats a smart idea, thanks for the reminder. I have a spare A7ii laying around with a metabones m adapter on it.
