Millar Mitts are nice but knit types do nothing to stop wind.
Shooting this morning it was nice, near 30 degrees but unfortunately wind chill had the real feel closer to the donut. That is 0 (f) for those who don't live in cold country.
Fingers get cold fast. Fingers bundled in a fold back mitten type glove stay warmer & you only need ot extend the finger to trip the shutter when needed or to adjust settings. Then cover back up and you are set once again.
On dealing with tripod legs, especially with metal tripods. A wrapping of Gaffers tape on the top leg sections can help a lot. Will prevent damp hands from freezing to exposed metal in the cold.
