A few weeks ago, a friend & I decided to head out to Bragg Creek in Kananaskis for some night sky shots. We noticed a group of photographers on the side of the road not very far from our final destination and decided to check out what they were seeing. The Northern Lights were out, and we just missed the "pillars". 180 degrees from where the Northern Lights were, the Milky Way was clear. It was the first time I had taken out the Nikon 20mm Z lens.

The Milky Way shot is a panorama of two shots. There is a little bit of motion in the stars because of the 15s exposure

Still learning the art of night sky photography, so any feedback or suggestion are welcome

Thanks for haring the photos. Nicely done. I think the set up condition is right and I don't see the star moving. However in the first picture, I may want to clear the airplane movements.

Very Nice shots. I have seen them several times in northern Michigan but never had the chance to photograph them. Great work.

Nice work on the MW - at this size I don't see the star movement. Now you have to work on the holy grail of star/landscapes - interesting land with some light - partial moon is best. Often done with two exposures combined in post.

Next time...if there are aurora pillars...you will want the briefest shutter speeds you can manage. Preferably under 5 seconds because the pillars move around. A longer speed like 15 or 30 secs loses clarity and the pillar looks mushier. Push the iso up to 6400 or more if your body tolerates that ok.
