I currently have a Formatt-Hitech Firecrest system. I like the filters and the overall system design, but the two pieces of the outer case (see photo) than encapsulate the holder and filters and keep out the stray light have become sticky. The material is some kind of rubber or plastic, and it's beginning to feel like an old camera grip that has deteriorated.

I tried contacting Formatt-Hitech a few times without success. In fact, I also tried contacting them a few times several years ago with a question about filter storage and they never responded to those inquiries either. Not comforting.

So I'm looking for a new holder system to fit my 100mm square filter collection. I've been researching H&Y and Kase, both of which seem to have systems that have good CP integration and are designed for quick filter changes. But I don't have any personal experience with either of these brands, and supply seems a little shaky. I know there are a lot of options on the market these days, so your recommendations and reports on user experiences and customer service would be greatly appreciated.

Might help to start with deciding which lens(es) you want to use it with. I chose Haida because they had mount adapters to fit all my lenses.

Beyond having the dedicated adapters I needed, the quality of the holders and filters is excellent. Everything goes together and comes apart easily.

Interesting. I bought the newer version of the 100 mm Formatt Hitech filter holder several weeks ago (actually I bought the Joel Tjintelaar signature kit) and had contacted customer service several times. At first I had some questions before purchasing, and got quick and detailed replies. After my filter set arrived one of the filter gaskets was a little bit damaged and I contacted them again and asked for a spare replacement gaskets. The response has been very good, and the friendly ladies send me 2 replacement gaskets. I was in contact with Formatt-Hitech UK.

If youīre in contact with the US branch maybe try reaching out to their UK customer service and tell the US office is not responding, maybe that will help.

If that doesnīt work you might try to clean the outer pieces with something like acetone. I guess that gets rid of the sticky stuff and gets you back to bare plastic. If that doesnīt work you can purchase the parts new, they offer replacement sets. But I guess that if you explain your experience to Formatt Hitech they might replace them under warrantee.

Be aware that there are 2 versions of the Formatt Hitech 100mm filter holder. You seem to have the "old" one. Mine is the newer version. It also accepts magnetic CPL. I find the quality is very good.

Note that you donīt realy need the caps except for very long exposures where you want to avoid any light leak. Most other brands donīt even offer these extra caps to seal of any light leak.
