I recently bought a near mint 1Ds MkII that never had the firmware updated from 1.1.1.
I searched more than I care to talk about. I found several links but they were dead. Even the links on Canon's USA, Europe and HK website including Canon's global. Nothing. Why don't people keep the firmware current.
As a last ditch effort I posted on Canon's USA community website. Within an hour a member replied with a link to his cloud that had the firmware the camera needed.
Within 10 minutes my vintage 1Ds MkII was updated. This update allows the camera to recognize larger SD card. The manual mentions 512MB and 2GB cards. So the updated firmware is as definite plus
Thanks to the few photogs and forward thinkers who save older firmware just in case guys like me with older cameras can get more out of them.
That’s great! I’m sure you would have also received similar assistance here. While I did not have that camera, I still have firmware updates for the digital cameras I had going back over 20 years and am always happy to share those, if someone asks.

Doesn't matter really. I am a member at Dpreview, FredMiranda and Canon U.S.A. forum and was the one sending you the firmware update. I have collected the latest firmware updates from Canon from EOS DCS 3c from 1995 to the latest one from 1D X III last month. I don't have any firmware for 1D C because Canon never published it.
I have also published SHA256 checksums for the latest firmware updates so that people can download from whatever page they want. As long as the checksum is the same the file is safe to use.
