The wood ducks are resident year round at Kissena Park here in New York City. We are well into migration and many of the birds I've been photographing have headed south and we are pending arrivals from the north. I'm thrilled to have the colorful wood ducks to photograph during the transition.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Morris

You are truly blessed to have these now Morris, wonderful shots of the woodies.

I remember the winter doldrums and everything turning gray after a certain point. The depression my mother had in winter was real. Sometimes we have to force ourselves to look for the glass half full. My pop was great at that, even made shoveling snow look fun... enough so for me to join him on my own without having to be bribed. Heh.

I second Eric's comments on what a blessing it is for you to have such beautiful subjects to fall back on. And you're making the most of the opportunity with images like these. Amazing detail captured here.

Thank you Eric,
I love photographing the wood ducks and another great time with them is when they have chicks.

Seasonal depression is a common problem. For many the cause is reduced light exposure and/or isolation. Your dad had the correct aptitude. Shoveling snow is a chore just like mowing the lawn. I enjoy the exercise from both. What I don’t like is heat and humidity and that’s why I do not go to Florida from April through October. There is only so much clothing one can take off yet there is plenty of great cold weather clothing that I use to keep me cozy in the winter, even on the beach with the wind.

Thank you Dan,

I like to vary my subjects yet I'll go with the flow and the wood ducks are a delight. I look forward to the winter birds arriving and before that peak color.

Really wonderful closeups. I've seen some of these ducks in the Bronx Zoo, want to go back when I get a long telephoto lens like the XF 100-400

Thank you Abir.

There are many wild birds that come into the zoo making it a great place to photograph local water fowl. The Queens Zoo is great for this as well.
