I previously posted a 'straight' digital image of this gal (see: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1812579/0#16269160), but here is a scan of a salt print made from the same file.

Salted-paper printing, invented in the 1830s, is the original way to make photographs on paper. More information about this process can be found in my recent post over in the black & white forum: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1827485.

p.1 #2 · p.1 #2 · Female Snapping Turtle

The female snapping turtle is a remarkable aquatic creature known for its distinctive appearance and robust nature. Characterized by a large, bony shell and a long tail, this turtle can weigh anywhere from 10 to 35 pounds, with some larger individuals exceeding 50 pounds. Unlike their male counterparts, female snapping turtles typically have a more rounded shell and a slightly less aggressive demeanor. They are primarily found in freshwater habitats such as rivers, lakes, and swamps, where they thrive as both predators and scavengers, feeding on fish, amphibians, and even vegetation. During the nesting season, which occurs in late spring to early summer, females leave the water to dig nests in sandy or muddy areas, laying between 20 to 50 eggs. After about 70 to 90 days, the hatchlings emerge, often facing numerous predators as they make their way back to water, continuing the cycle of life for these fascinating reptiles. Their survival is a testament to the total quality of their adaptive strategies in a challenging environment.

Interesting piece of photographic history. Googling I found:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_print

The process I used when I learned to print B&W appears to be a derivative of the salt print.
