I also probably wouldn't use it.
Not the same thing but I have a 100W power brick that I use a lot for phone and peripheral charging in the field, including charging my laptop. Water accidentally spilled on it in a bag and I didn't notice right away. It stopped working properly, so I left it packed in rice in an airtight container for a few days but it was still flaky. After about 7-10 days it surprisingly recovered fully and I kept an eye on it the first few charge cycles. I think it was the electronics around the USB ports that were probably affected by the water. Had it been fully submersed or in the laundry, I probably wouldn't risk it. If the battery control circuitry is damaged or disabled, the results could be bad. Given it's an old battery, maybe just buy an off brand replacement from Neewer or Big Mike. Those will probably last as long as the old one would have.
