In the M10-P, it was similar to the M10M and M10R with the engineering (non-cosmetic) differences from the base M10. Looking to the engineering (non-cosmetic) differences in the M11M vs. M11 ... I mean, it strikes me that the M11-P will essentially be a M11M (engineering / non-cosmetic) with a BFA installed.
I think the relationship between the M-P and M-M were also similar engineering diff's vs. the base model M. So, if I follow this model from the M > M10 > M11, I'd be surprised if there is much engineering change from the M11M to the M11-P (other than the obvious BFA). Although, I wouldn't mind if they could get the metering to be more like the M10. No matter for me, though ... M11 isn't in my vocabulary (except the occasional dream of an M11M).
I did enjoy my M-P, since it had the better shutter release than the M. Engraved top plate and black screw were nice, but the cosmetics were just a nice benefit, whereas the shutter release (and buffer) were the engineering diffs that made the M-P model my initial entry point (vs. base M). Still, I can't think of what engineering diff's they would bring to the M11-P that isn't already in the M11M (BFA, notwithstanding).
Guess we'll learn soon enough if this is purely cosmetic, or they have some actual engineering diffs (i.e. internal memory + )...Show more →
The M11-P being basically a M11-M with a bayer filter seems reasonable to me. Leica may also improve the LCD glass, possibly switching from Gorilla glass to sapphire crystal, similar to what they did when going from the M9 to the M9-P, which is also seen on the M11-M.
It's possible that the M11-P could be offered in a brass-only finish. While they may not change the metering system, Leica might consider providing a meter-less "option" for those who prefer faster shooting, similar to the M-A model.
