p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Leica Q3 won't power off

I've had my Q3 for almost a month now, and almost every day the system crashes or won't power off. If it dies, I have to remove the battery and reactivate it. And I had to remove the grip and pop out the battery.

It's hard to believe this is a $6,000 camera. I've taken the camera to a few events, but the Q3's flaws have forced me to quit shooting with it.

I've seen a lot of people complaining about similar things, and I wonder if Leica will be able to solve this problem with a firmware update.

If it's still within the return period, consider returning it.

Just to double-check, is the 1.3.0 firmware installed on your camera? You might want to experiment with different SD cards too. Use your camera to format them. If your camera is still experiencing crashes even after resetting and updating to the latest firmware, you might need to send it to the Leica NJ Repair facility for service.

I know many people who are shooting their Q3 daily without such issues. Maybe you have a bad copy. I would also recommend returning it to the store you bought it from. They should swap out a bad camera for you even if it is a little past the 30 days mark.

Where did you buy it?

Thank you very much for the message. Just saw that Leica has released a new 1.3.0 firmware update. After the upgrade, it does fix some of the previous problems!
A quick test, and all functions are now working! Solved a problem I've been having for days!
Thanks again.

I bought it from Leica Miami. After upgrading the firmware, it does fix some of the previous problems!
thanks

Leica store Miami is a good place to buy. They have a standing policy to swap problem cameras with new problem free ones. This so their customers don't have to endure long Leica service times. I would call your salesperson and discuss the problems you have been having. Express your optimism about the firmware, but get it documented that your purchase arrived with problems. They will take good care of you.

Definitely try a different brand/version SD card and format it in-camera before using it. My M11 behaved badly with a Lexar card I was using. When I switched to a SanDisk the problem went away. Recent Leicas don't like V90 SD cards in some cases. Worth a shot.
