Is this still an issue shooting at ISO 50? BTW I shoot at f1.2 frequently in bright sun with the OM1 using the e shutter. You can't do that with an A1?

Some nd filters obstruct my lens hood. U need to keep the filter clean too so it’s not like a lens cap where I just stuff it into my pocket.

I use nd filters screw on types for video but those is really a chore. I am thinking of getting a magnetic nd filters but those are not cheap esp my lens have different filter threads.

I am itching to try Canon too. I think I have tried every brand except Canon.

There's nothing wrong with trying new things. I have a Canon system beside my Sony's (plus a few others). I like gear. I totally get it.

As for the magnetic filters I have two sets. One complete (5 filters) for general and landscape photography and then just an ND filter for a few fast primes. It's about the same as any really good filter and they don't interfere with the hood at all. I have a cloth in almost every pair of pants I own (old photographers trick) which means I can easily keep the filter clean and scratch free.

Absolutely you can but the OP doesn't want an A1. His choice. Having an A1 and Canon R5 I'd take the Sony any day. He wants to try something different, that's all. Nothing at all wrong with that.

What about replacing the A7R5 with a used A1 or even used A9? I don't imagine you need a flip screen to use the 85mm. It sounds like you may want to switch because you like the 85 1.2 lens itself. By the the way, love your images. You're one of the the few people here who photographs just like I do, i.e family trips. I do also do video as well. The only other obvious benefit to going with a canon body that comes straight to mind would be the 28-70 RF lens. You could replace your 24, 35,

The last 2 weeks vacation, I took 2 A9s, 1 a74 with 14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70-200mm. Plus Dji rs3 gimbal.

I love my 35mm f1.2 too much to trade it for 28-70 rf. It took me a long time to get a 35mm whose rendering I really like.

Another question I have is about the blackout free shooting for r6ii.

For a7m4 and a7r5, I am using hi+ to “remove” the blackout between frames and switching to lossless compressed raw so the fps is around 7.

I know r6ii can do the same thing with eshutter at hi+ but is it blackout free with low speed 5fps e shutter or is there blackout? 40fps generates too many pics for me. I don’t mind the viewfinder going to like 7 fps when shooting. I just hates the flashing…

Just tried my R6II: there is blackout in e-shutter at 5fps but not at 20 and 40. I never use 5fps, so did not realize this until now. It also blacks out in e-shutter single frame advance.

Thanks appreciate it. This might be a big issue. 20fps really is too much. I shoot previously at 10fps on my a9s and a74 and I already find it too much to handle as it just generate too many pics to cull. No way I can use 20fps. I will need to tolerate the evf blackout if I get the r6ii, something I probably can’t…. I use hi+ always just to avoid the blackout even though it generates way more pictures than I need.

Canon should have a special 20fps mode where the evf updates 20fps while you only write every other photo to sd card giving you 10fps on card. I wonder if there is an app to do that during file copy to laptop…

Or they could just make it so there isn't blackout. I suspect the reason there isn't blackout at 20 and 40fps is that it's actually still frames, just captured, that are fed to the EVF to mask the blackout. It would explain why keeping up with a fast subject while panning at 20/40fps is often somewhat challenging - it's east to fall behind as the sequence continues.

So you can't do this with an A9 either (or an A7IV or V)? I'm surprised. That is basically the point I am making/asking. Only with an A1 can you shoot in full sun at f1.2? Don't all of these cameras have e-shutters faster than 1/8000?

I definitely understand. I thought you were talking about the Sigma 35 1.4. I have had my eye on the the 35mm 1.2 "Bigma" for a year because of the rendering. My travel setup if similar to yours. Usually have 3 bodies, but usually don't include a telephoto unless going to the beach. Have travelled with my RS3, but struggle with carrying it and quickly setting up the camera on it and controlling the camera. My solution to that was to buy the Ronin 4D lol. Just got it, so we'll see how that goes. Is your website the only places you have images, or do you have them on flikr too? Would love to check out more of your images, especially to see some of the sigma 35 1.2.

A9 can but it is stuck to my sigma 35mm f1.2. I dislike changing lens that is why I carry multiple bodies. A7iv and a7r5 max shutter is 1/8000

I don’t use Flickr. I did a hdr video on YouTube to share photos better on hdr capable displays like iPad 12.9 or hdr tv. Link is below. The hdr version looks much better I feel. To be frank, doing up this video just tells me how little gear affects the final output as the pictures were all taken over many years and some with really “ancient” equipment. The major impact I felt are the live view of digital camera and af accuracy in Sony a73.

Then why not pick up another A9. I’ve seen them under $1800 on the b&s board.

.... I just sold my 2nd A9 to get the A7r5.... Kind of regretting it.... just itchy fingers to try the new Sony ibis with co-ordinated lens body control. After testing, I realised it only works for video... I can handhold better on my 85mm prime without OSS on a7r5 vs my 70-200mm gmii.
