p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Aspen Season in CO

I went hunting for healthy aspen last week as all of the ones close to home are blighted. In central Colorado, there were some nice, healthy stands.

The 1st 2 were just off the trail colloquially know to runners of the Leadville 100 (a 100 mile foot race) as "the dark side" and to us mere mortals as the Sheep Gulch Trail. I unknowingly stopped probably less than 1/2 mile from the top as I had found this nice grouping of aspen and was perfectly happy. I liked the mistiness, though maybe it was just my glasses being fogged up from the @2600' elevation gain.

The 3rd is at one of the 2 ghost towns along the road leading to aforementioned trail. This one is Vicksburg, the other is Winfield. There are some current residents of Vicksburg (or maybe summer residents) evidenced by plastic lawn chairs outside some of the old cabins.

All three are lovely but I'm most strongly attracted to the second and third images. My immediate reaction on seeing the first one was to wonder if it might work better as a color shot, due to the whisper thinness of the contrast range.
Cheers,
Brent

Aspens in Fall color are unequaled! Love #3 but 2&3 are excellent!
Brent's analysis of the contrast in #1I agree with but does not degrade( and Brent is not inferring that IMHO) from the image.

Nice work Moncia. I'll be the odd man choosing #1 - I like the etheral feel to the mist.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys! I had, at one point, processed #1 with more contrast, but it lost what drew me to it in the first place: the ghostly forms of the white trunks fading into the mist. I could explore it with going more high key (but it wasn't really that misty)

The ghostly forms DOES fit #1 very well Monika!
