Whiffling is a term used in ornithology to describe the behavior whereby a bird rapidly descends with a zig-zagging, side-slipping motion. Sometimes to whiffle, a bird flies briefly with its body turned upside down but with its neck and head twisted 180 degrees around in a normal position.

Still trying to get a shot of one in an upside-down position when it is whiffling.

Tony, Interesting information about the behavior, I have seen this with ducks before as well. Hope you get your chance to capture the upside down but happens pretty fast so will be tough to track and keep in the frame. Bruce
