Anyone come up with a solution for a solar filter for the Nikon large glass for the upcoming Eclipse...

Would like to use my Nikon AFS 400mm z F2.8TC or AFS 800mm z F6.3 but need a solution...

Thanks in advance

I've used these filters before from Thousand Oaks with great success. It won't give the surface details like a dedicated scope but still works quite well.

Just be careful adding filters inside a long prime. Without some sort of energy rejection on the front glass, it could be very damaging to your gear.

I used thses
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1303020-REG/mrstarguy_sg77mmsol_77mm_white_light_solar.html (they have a bunch of sizes)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1319794-REG/daystar_filters_ulf90_2_universal_lens_filter_for.html
for the 2017 total eclipse.

FYI, I'm not sure for an annular eclipse like the upcoming one, but for a total eclipse like the one in 2017, you need to remove remove the filter once the eclipse reaches totality and put it back when totality ends, so it is convenient to have a filter that can be removed easily like the universal one.

My one piece of advise is to make sure not to get so caught up in photographing the eclipse that you miss the live experience. Fortunately I read that advise before my trip, so made sure to take an little time to enjoy the experience. I'm glad I did, because my images were garbage, but the experience of totality was one of the most amazing in my life.

I recently received this one from Agena Astro and it fits my 400mm TC perfectly.

One caveat is that I have the Zemlin lock ring for the Zemlin hood on the end of my lens. It shows currently out of stock but they seem to restock these filters fairly regularly.

The October 14 eclipse needs to be filtered constantly. It is annular not total. There's basically old xray film (do NOT use new xrays, they're not safe for solar viewing) and the other type of material, I think Baader is one place you can get it, that's supposed to be higher resolution, if you're interested in making your own.

The sun us a very intense source of light. If you screw it up you can damage vision or go blind even
