Ophelia keep hanging on to me. First I drove home from DC with the storm moving my Forester around. Then I came home and we are in day 3 of intermittent wind and rain. Yesterday I drove to Nickerson Beach hoping to use the large waves for backgrounds. As soon as I opened my car door a gust of wind hit me and I decided this was a bad idea as I knew it would be even crazier on the beach out in the open so I drove back inland to Oakland Lake which is in a ravine and sheltered. Even there it was a bit windy yet fine for me. As I walked around the lake I spotted a lot of Ruby Throated Hummingbird enjoying the Jewelweed that was at peak bloom. They were feeding very frequently in the cold for them wet conditions. On a few occasions I set up and photographed them yet they would perch fine which was nice yet when they went to feed they went low in the jewelweed bushes for shelter. I'll share some feeding images yet this set is mostly perched.

These are wonderful, Morris. This is a first for me, I've never seen a Hummingbird pee before. I love #8 where she stuck her tongue out at you for violating her privacy! :-)

Thanks for the interesting information.

Each year at this time I wonder why my last hummer stayed so long. I find myself wondering if it will be able to string together enough nectar sources to make it to milder climes. My last one was also a female and she left late last week.

Very nice images, Morris. Hummingbirds are not the easiest subjects to photograph but you have done a great job with these.
