Yes, sometimes knowing the rules and laws ahead of time goes a long way to reduce these confrontations with the cops. Yet even while ignorant, they will scream they are within their rights.

Did you purchase a pass that allowed photography at Legoland? Seems to me you were standing outside taking photos without a pass.

I understand your sentiments here, but was it really necessary to be such a condescending jerk about it, or insinuate that the OP is somehow a pedophile for taking a picture of a lego sculpture? I get that you're new here, but at the VERY LEAST being nice is generally the expectation, and it's not as if it's difficult.

Odds are the poster you are responding to is Carlos / VailJohnson / 3-4 other screen names. They now must hold the record for getting banned and coming back.

I see now that they are already banned, but they will be back.

I'm curious to know if previously banned member TerryEaton is on that list as well. The condescending and rude ranting just seems way too familiar.

Likely. Did they post in the Leica subforum? Did they use the ‘@‘ symbol a lot? Probably the same person then.

The last iteration ‘VailJohnson’ started off well enough even though several other regulars had their suspicions - but then it derailed as usual.

ok... I'm a law-and-order guy yet I recognize that some police are not worth a dam beyond the donut shop...

I used to manage RE and have had occasions to ask the police to move people who are not customers from our parking lot (striking Starbucks workers).

They refused and were kind enough to explain the law...

They cannot evict from private property unless an actual law is being broken, but if they block the sidewalk - police can act.

Sounds like these guys were just assholes (full of themselves) - which happens a lot...

I say get their body cam footage through the Freedom of Information Act. It is important to have proof that they denied your rights under threat of arrest, which caused you not to exercise those rights.

Then get the incident report. Check for discrepancies.

Take that to a civil rights attorney.

See what they will do on a contingency basis. You may have recoverable damages from both the City, and the Mall depending on what tresspass documents the mall has signed with the department.

You are allowed to photograph anything you can see from a public space. This includes a publically accessible space on private property. Check to see if the mall has posted any signs regarding photography in conspicuous places at mall entrances and inside the mall.

Also file complaints with the department and any civil review boards available.

Unfortunately, our Police in the US have turned in to criminal gangs, and bullies who move way too fast in violence and threats of violence. We should all resist them in these kind of behaviors at this point.
