I just returned from the Rockport/Fulton, TX 'Hummerbird Celebration' -- with many images to cull and process, of course. :-)

One of the presentations during this event was an indoor raptor 'demonstration' and talk by a rescue group called "Sky Kings".
God Bless the dedicated people who save these beautiful animals, and educate people about them.

These photos are of a rescued Eurasian Eagle Owl, the second largest owl species with a 6 foot wingspan. This one had an injured wing and could not fly. This event was moved indoors in a high school auditorium, due to the excessively high temps right now, so the lighting was not that great.

Regardless, this is a beautiful and very impressive bird -- would love to be able to capture a shot of one in the wild.

I've enjoyed talks like this as well Greg and it's a great opportunity to get photos of these amazing creatures. The last two photos are my picks and I like seeing the owl with the man for scale.

Thanks Morris! People who do Animal rescue, just like people who do Human rescue are special people in my book.

This same group had a couple Kookaburras, an Aplomado Falcon, a Wolf Hawk, a Raven, and a Black-headed Vulture. The speaker gave a lot of interesting info about each species, and his personal favorite, believe it or not, was the Black-headed Vulture which he seemed to have a close bond with. He talked about how intelligent and valuable vultures are, and how they are often victims of shooters, etc. because they are so misunderstood. All in all it was a very interesting presentation.

A very cool owl for sure! Great images hoping the wing injury isn't permanent?

Thanks Karl. I believe the presenter said that the wing injury would prevent this big guy from being released into the wild.

Greg, I've had the opportunity to see a presentation by rescuers of various raptors and vultures and was duly impressed. The black vulture followed the lady around like a puppy.

Sue, thanks for the comment. I learned some things I did not know about black vultures -- one thing was their intelligence level. The first thing the presenter did when he brought out the vulture was to grab his beak and shake it, then kiss him on the head. :-)
