Here we are ... Blasting off into the Autumn, just like this tiny bird rockets upward 12,800 iso (getting closer with tracking a speeding bullet) *** edit ... I was thinking about posting this image overnite... Though its almost, but not there for me this one is close to a miracle because I have struggled so much trying to catch flying shots. A number of great people here have helped me get to this point with the R5.
Its not likely proper to post shots that are actually failures, but I'll call this one a partial victory and on the road to capturing difficult flight images... Thanks again to everyone who has helped me to get to this point!!!

Honolulu Harbor, Sand Island and God Beams | EOS R6 and RF 100-400 5.6-8.0 IS USM | Fall isn't much different than Summer on Oahu. Well, more traffic and the sun slowly moves away from the mountains and eventually sets over the Pacific Ocean.

Heres one from today ... Thrilled to get a Pileated Woodpecker flight shot but more good luck than camera tracking skills. I was waiting for him to bolt and clicked in time to grab 3 shots using electronic shutter on the R5 ... He flew parallel to the initial focus point so managed to focus the wings.

Whiffling is a term used in ornithology to describe the behavior whereby a bird rapidly descends with a zig-zagging, side-slipping motion. Sometimes to whiffle, a bird flies briefly with its body turned upside down but with its neck and head twisted 180 degrees around in a normal position.
Still trying to get a shot of one in an upside-down position when it is whiffling.

Vegas turned 6 months old on the 21st. Time flies.
She and Surfer were playing a little game of keep away to celebrate the first day of fall on the 23rd.
