You guys are making Texas sound depressing in fall .. ha ha ha
I love Texas, by the way, and visit almost every 6 to 8 weeks for work, family, friends, food
Love driving in Dallas - at least 25 mph over the speed limit, or folks will give you dirty looks,
but still driving safer than the idiots in Saint Louis who cause so many accidents
It varies from year to year of course.
2022/2023 were and continue to be extremely hot/dry, so trees lost a lot of leaves early (and frankly we're going to probably lose a few trees also). It's not 2011 bad, but I don't expect a very large set of fall colors in Central Texas, North Central Texas or anywhere out toward the Llano Estacado this year with 25% of the state in exceptional drought. Maybe a bit deeper in the deep NE portion of the state. As I say this, I checked the forecast and we have another 100°F day forecast this weekend (as well as a couple that go to 98 and might clip 100 °F in isolated locations). Some years get the high 90's and low 100's a few weeks into November.
I lived for a time in Erath County (about 50-60 miles SW of Fort Worth) and the drives along US 281 through the Hill Country all the way up to near Wichita Falls were wonderful. My daily commute in 2011/2012 was from Stephenville to a little north of Mineral Wells and the fall colors that year were amazing... Paluxy and Brazos valleys and the Palo Pinto region are beautiful and have great light at sunrise/sunset. That's a good area for you to hit if you're ever here in a better year and we get good strings of chilling days as are many parts of NE Texas and the Hill Country.
No color here yet, but we'll see how things break. Last year was really hot from May-early August and then we got rain which gave us a nice burst of life for the trees to hang in their until Autumn.
The weather patterns did align to make for a spectacular spring/early summer wildflower season this year in Central TX, one of the best 2-3 of my lifetime. I need to go dig some of those photos up and post them in one of the Z threads while waiting for fall colors.
Thank you for starting the thread by the way. I always enjoyed dropping in to view the Canon season threads from time to time. I think the broad participation threads liek that which are not too narrow in focus are a viable way to participate more regularly in taking/sharing images (pretty much one of the main reasons we do this, right?)
